High all,

Toe rag, first of all may the Lord bless NZ and restore everything in Christchuch. I live on an island and the access to bottled nutes, so I started making my own for a while using this site and other sources. I was really blind then but after reading Starbud's post I had the confidence I needed to get even better at it and master some stages as well, he put the way to make your own very good seaweed in the simplest manner I have ever seen until now.

Check out his post on making your own other nutes in his sig, its really nice. I'm brewing some now with his help. I have just chopped some plants grown from start to finish using my own nutes and the results are amazing as far as quality and quantity mate.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Thanks SB....:)

Top stuff mate, at the end of the day, the bottled stuff is just the same as this method, they just have the time and facility to add and change the product, after all for the bottling, and manufacturing concerns its about money.

We have everyhting we need to grow plants at our disposal in nature, all we need is a bit of time...when you first start making your own feeds you feel like it takes ages, it does really, or it dies to get it right, but once you get in the swing of things, and have the abilty to make in advance, and get ahead of yourself thats it....the rest is up to your mixing, and reading the plants for what they need....and its all really easy to make, all you need is a few buckets and some water for the basics, my stills and other contraptions just streamline the process....

I will have to start again after my move, I cannot be transporting vats of ferts halfway across the country in 15L buckets lol, so in a way I am gutted that I will be a few months getting back up to speed...however I also get the opportunity to start again, and make a few improvements to the system and process' :)

The nice thing is it will be spring/summer when I start again, so all my base materials will be at the top of their game and in abundance, it can get tough to collect plants in the winter so I will be making a years supply this year, but not for a while yet :( But that bit is for the feeds thread...

I really like the fact that so many people are actually trying this, i was nervous at the start, because get reliant on the instructions on the packs, and your confidence to actually apply nature gets removed..."I can't do that, it doesn't say so on the bottle!"...rubbish lol, its just about confidence. My most important piece of advice would be just test on a small number of plants until you're sure...its no shame to use bottled stuff while you dial in, after all until now most of you have used bottled stuff anyways, if anything at all, so you lose nothing, and gain everything :)

The only thing about seaweed that will kill your plant is the salt....so in effect theres no danger at all (unless you forget to rinse properly!), but everything to gain from what seweed does :)

Quality fellers...nice one :)

Top stuff chap :) - I have just deposited the last of my seaweed sauce to the garden, the lawn looks fantastic lol, however the canna will have to go without now, but as theres just the one plant left, and its a week or so away, no real worries....

This is my final offering as a result of my organic feeds, I'll have to pack up for a few months in a couple weeks :(

Hi Starbud and fellow weed brewers,
the good news is that the raspberries (that have been my test crop) are loving the SW brew.
The only problem is the smell, it's soo bad.

A couple of months back, very early one morning before work, I noticed that the bottles were on the verge of exploding.
Without thinking, I opened the top to let out the pressure. HOLY SHIT that was the most intense farty odour I've ever experienced.
Not only that but I still had the other one left to open. :fart: :bad:
Seriously, this stuff gets worse as it ages.

And thats the real problem for me, because there's no way this brew is comming inside.

This makes Fishmix smell like honey.

I think I'll be sticking with the bottled stuff for the indoor grow. :bag:

Though, it's great for the vegi patch.

Good luck stinkers. P :nenenenene:

Hi folks and good day to you all! I wanted to first thank everyone who has contributed to Starbud's Seaweed Guide, especially Starbud, and then share some recent adventures in seaweed of my own. Last week I took a trip out to the Oregon Coast and collected a good lot of kelp after camping out and bon-firing it right on the beach! Good times, and I must say I slept well that night because that was some pretty heavy stuff to carry across almost a half mile of sand dunes to my car! Anyhow, all around a good outing and after washing, soaking, rinsing for a couple days, then finally going to town with the kitchen shears, it's finally chopped up and soaking in a 18 gallon tub.

It may make way more than I need, but I figure I can freeze as much as I can, bottle what I can use, and give the rest away.

Now to the fun stuff, pictured is a neighborhood cat who just dominated the freshly washed kelp with ferocious fangs, and of course the star of the show, the one who makes it all possible, a good old honey bee gave its seal of approval while I was chopping it all up, and dropped in for a rare treat this far from the coast (I actually pissed off a bee while collecting it at the coast, I guess they must really like it!)

Well, I'm off to go make some soda bottle stills for some horsetail I gathered roadside in a state forest on the way home. Thanks again Starbud for all the priceless info and ground work! Cheers and good health everybody! :guitar: :yinyang:

Hi uktena, It sounds like a wonderful trip! I used to live in Drain Oregon, up in the mountains and I loved it so much. The cosast is so awe inspiring with the huge pacific breakers and the soft light. Green with envy here :)

Bump time, hope your cool Starbud. :yep:

I thinks it's time for a yearly collection, fill up the tubs in time for veg and GG's.

Has anyone tried it without water? Just washed seaweed in an air-tight box/bag, left to rot.

:fart:

p.s Rootstim from PM smells very similar, only less pungent.

Great guide Starbud, well written & informative.

A great feed for plants and FREE !

I just collected my seaweed yesterday, washed it this morning and filled a 100 litre container with the stuff in fresh water.
Im gonna follow your instructions and hopefully have big healthy plants all summer long.
I collected way too much of the stuff, so just gonna wash what didn't fit into the container, cut it up, and dig into my plots.

Cheers :yinyang:

throw something into it to get it started mate a couple of banana skins or apple cores.I washed seaweed once and soaked it, 6 weeks later it was still sitting there fresh as a daisy like it would be if it was sitting in a rock pool
