Toe rag, first of all may the Lord bless NZ and restore everything in Christchuch. I live on an island and the access to bottled nutes, so I started making my own for a while using this site and other sources. I was really blind then but after reading Starbud's post I had the confidence I needed to get even better at it and master some stages as well, he put the way to make your own very good seaweed in the simplest manner I have ever seen until now.
Check out his post on making your own other nutes in his sig, its really nice. I'm brewing some now with his help. I have just chopped some plants grown from start to finish using my own nutes and the results are amazing as far as quality and quantity mate.
Good luck and keep up the good work.
Top stuff mate, at the end of the day, the bottled stuff is just the same as this method, they just have the time and facility to add and change the product, after all for the bottling, and manufacturing concerns its about money.
We have everyhting we need to grow plants at our disposal in nature, all we need is a bit of time...when you first start making your own feeds you feel like it takes ages, it does really, or it dies to get it right, but once you get in the swing of things, and have the abilty to make in advance, and get ahead of yourself thats it....the rest is up to your mixing, and reading the plants for what they need....and its all really easy to make, all you need is a few buckets and some water for the basics, my stills and other contraptions just streamline the process....
I will have to start again after my move, I cannot be transporting vats of ferts halfway across the country in 15L buckets , so in a way I am gutted that I will be a few months getting back up to speed...however I also get the opportunity to start again, and make a few improvements to the system and process'
The nice thing is it will be spring/summer when I start again, so all my base materials will be at the top of their game and in abundance, it can get tough to collect plants in the winter so I will be making a years supply this year, but not for a while yet But that bit is for the feeds thread...
I really like the fact that so many people are actually trying this, i was nervous at the start, because get reliant on the instructions on the packs, and your confidence to actually apply nature gets removed..."I can't do that, it doesn't say so on the bottle!"...rubbish , its just about confidence. My most important piece of advice would be just test on a small number of plants until you're sure...its no shame to use bottled stuff while you dial in, after all until now most of you have used bottled stuff anyways, if anything at all, so you lose nothing, and gain everything
The only thing about seaweed that will kill your plant is the salt....so in effect theres no danger at all (unless you forget to rinse properly!), but everything to gain from what seweed does
Quality fellers...nice one
