Style of Grow:Hydroponic

Hi all ,
I'm starting to build my first grow room , I've got an 8 pot Wilma system with Hydroton clay pebbles ,a Sylvania 400 watt HPS growlux lamp. I'll also be using 4" rockwool cubes for the plants.
My problem is not having done this before could someone help with :

1 . What nutrients should I use ?
2 . am I better off with auto flowering or feminised seeds to start with?
3 . can I veg and grow using the lamp I have or will I need a different type for veg cycle.

Sorry for the dumb questions but having gone through the site I'm a little confused on the above typical newbie , lol.gif
Thanks for any help

hi pmbcrew and welcome cool.gif

can't help with the nutrients other than i use canna products generally in a hydro setup

personally i would go for the feminized seeds out of the two you've put

thats because auto flowering strains don't really return much, though they do return quicker, i believe about 9 weeks.

feminized seeds if you were to grow straight through to flower would add about another 3/4 weeks

the returns you can't compare as the auto's will give about an oz if you're lucky, the fems a LOT more cos of the extra size the vegging period puts on them

you can use the lamp you have for both veg and flowering ok

how much you get at the end depends on the strength of your lamp and seed genetics primarily

first grow i done in a wilma i used autoflower ak just to get the feel for the setup but when a week odd in regret'd it as of what scooby mentioned .. yield.
would've prefered to pull a bit more but maybe thats just greed.
really easy wilma is, simples!
i tryed the 3 bottles of dutch advanced hydroponics and found them fine.. many people will vary tho.. just try a few on diff grows and find your one thumbsup.gif

Theres a couple of seed co banners on the bottom of each thread.

You could try them.

ok guys , I've managed to lay my hands on 4 clones that should be with me saturday from a friend who it turns out had been growing himself for about 4 years.............. didnt know that --lol.gif , they will be well rooted and ready to go into my 4" rockwool cubes.
Should I start feeding nutrients straight away at a reduced rate or just water. and seeing as I'm using my 400 watt HPS light how far above the plants should it be.
My friend was quite helpful but was a bit koy about these details ...
Thanks for your help so far !!

They need food, so they're going to have to be fed with Grow nutes starting at around 1/4 strength and then working up from there.

¿You *do* have a pH and an EC pen, don't you? unsure.gif

They are essential pieces of kit for growing hydro. thumbsup.gif

The lamp should be at the height where if you put the back of you hand under at the same level, that it's not uncomfortable if you leave it there for 30 seconds or so. wink1.gif
