Thanks for that info scraglor, and yeah i see it now. lol

I came into possesion of an ELIWELL EWDR 905/T it looks like it could be used on a future build ???

Thanks bluecheese. Sorry to be a bit thick, is one variac for the extraction and the other for the intake ? Can you have one variac for the tick over for both fans and another variac to set the speed for when the thermo kicks in ? I've got the kit but baffled at the moment.

eta Just looked again and it seems that you have separate variacs for each fan and then a relay which switches both fans to full when the thermostat kicks in , is that right ?

really?? it was probably me, and saying 30%

at 30% the fan is moving pretty slowly, and it's the minimum voltage rvk recommends there fans to be run at, at a 100v, a fan is producing around 2 pascals of pressure lol

so not worth going any lower anyway. when you reduce the voltage to a fan, as well as slowing the fan, the fan heats up, the fan uses the air flowing over it too self cool it, if you slow it so much that airflow is virtually non existent, then this is bad for your fan (and of course, why run a fan at all, if it's so slow it's barely moving any air )

i'm not arguing, i'm just explaining why i'm right

Think I'll give this a go. Was considering the Ecotechnics Evo but there seems to be too many things that can go wrong with it. This seems simple and robust.

So the variacs control 1 fan each, and the thermostat switches both on when the temp goes above the setting?

Was looking at the SMS fan controller its £95 but i suspect this makes the fans hum?

benr, the 0.75a & 1a variac (model 1f-1) have the connector spades for 6.3mm lucus spade connectors, if you need new female connectors, theyre cheap at maplins.

As my current one is wired up to accept male spade connectors I'd rather replace like for like so it's as straight forward as possible. Now if you could roll me a joint and pass it over it would be appreciated :rofl:

Nearly got all the bits, but I can't find a box that will house 2 variacs for less than £30.

Anybody know any good sources?

Check out fleabay and type in weatherbox. Be careful on size of the variacs your using! If it's 2* 2amp it's gonna be tight in there.

I'm planing on building one of these beauty's but my worry is. I don't want the fan to kick in to full power when temps rise. (thinking of the neighbours hearing the noise. So how do you set it so the fan never kicks into full power

There is a new machine at the Gym, I only used it for half an hour cos it made me feel sick. It did everything Yorkies, Kit Kat, Mars Bars etc....
