This is my first go at NFT this big, well this is my first big grow to tell the truth so any help/ input will be grately appreciated..... Lights are now 18inches from the plants. *had a few problems with my clones yellowing, is this due to problems with my PH levels? my current Ph level is around 6.3 take a look!!! |

quality buds there mate i like nice yield too i allso like the roll of notes behin gthe bud lucky man have the clones rooted well , they look real young . they should have a good root system before goin onto the table My cuttings had roots comming out of there cutting blocks and I put them into my 3inch cubes and straight on the table. this has been done before and was fine. but now yu mention it i might take them out of the tray and put the back onto the flood & drain table untill they show roots in the 3inch cubes. |

yep defo makes a BIG difference if you have roots busting out of the big bricks before you put them on the tables, they start growing very fast if done like that, if not they just suffer for a few days untill they recoup..

What you needed to do was run the NFT pump for a few mins to wet the blocks then switch it off till the blocks get near dry and switch it on again for a few mins. Do that until the clones get a root system established in the capilliary matting.
The way NFT works is that the roots, once established, can take air and water as they grow thru the matting to take water/nute solution and grow on top of the matting to get air. Your roots are still in the rockwool cube at present, which via the matting will be soaked constantly so the roots get no air, hence the yellowing mate. I'm not the best at explaining things maybe someone will come along and do it better:) -------------------- |

just bumping this thread as it seems to be as of interest to me at the min. Im currently bringing up some seedlings as we speak i have transplanted them into 4" rockwool blocks and the roots are just starting to emerge through the blocks but i have them just sat on the floor of my tent with a 250w envirolight hung above and the roots are looking a wee bit flatend and squashed which im a bit concerned about but what the best method / system to get a healthy root mass to an acceptable level ready for transplanting onto the nft table ?
I was just thinking about sitting the blocks on top of a filled plant pot with clay pebbles and hand watering untill the roots a plenty full but the probs im thinking im going to have this this method is the clay pebbles will dry out to quickly ? any thoughts on this or idea's This post has been edited by Azzak: Dec 29 2008, 12:52 AM |

leave them on a flat surface mate , the roots will curl round i used to wait untill the whole bottom of the cube was white
i used to take cuts earlier to prep them |

In the past I've stood the cubes on a couple of layers of capillary matting in a cutting tray, the roots are a little happier spreading from the blocks into the matting, (may want to cover this with black and white to stave off algae growth). I then just cut the matting with scissors and place the squares onto the matting on the table. (hope this makes sense!)

(hope this makes sense!) yes this deffo make sense but when you have 50 to contend with watering them is going to be a bit of a pain in the ass with black and white in the way This post has been edited by Azzak: Dec 29 2008, 01:08 AM |
