The Daily Record

Jun 5 2003

THREE drug dealers were caught after depositing £200,000 in a bank.

Staff alerted police when the criminals asked for advice on how to invest their stash.

The High Court in Glasgow heard yesterday that Michael Webster, 26, opened the account at Airdrie Savings Bank in Shotts, Lanarkshire.

His co-accused Andrew Baillie, 28, made regular deposits.

Brian McConnachie, prosecuting, said police were informed when the account reached £170,000.

He said: "A surveillance operation was mounted on the two accused and eventually they and a third accused were arrested and charged with dealing in cannabis and ecstasy."

Webster and Baillie, both of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, were arrested after police saw them loading cannabis into a car on a back road between Shotts and Fauldhouse in April 2002.

They admitted dealing in 33 bars of cannabis with a street value of £54,000.

Hugh McLean, 32, of Dornie Wynd, Shotts, admitted dealing in ecstasy after police found 10,000 tablets worth almost £50,000 in his house.

Mr McConnachie said Webster's bank account was not frozen and the Crown was seeking to forfeit his assets and those of Baillie.

All three will be sentenced later this month.

A fourth man - Edward Morcombe, 29, of Park View, Fauldhouse - walked free when his pleas of not guilty to dealing in cannabis and ecstasy were accepted by the Crown.
