Basically a fan drawing air from outside the growroom into the growroom
Or you can have passive intake, just like holes in the sides of your tent.

Hi miss haze,

your intake is merely the access point for air that has been drawn in by your fan to enter the growroom.

If you've no intake no new air can enter.

well basically your intake is your air being let into the grow room which will either be passive or direct. Passive is just a hole and its actually ya extractor blowing air out that sucks air in from the hole, or ya can have an intake fan which blows air directly into ya room. I think ya intake should be smaller than ya extract if ya using fans at either end in and out. But if ya having a passive intake then it should be about 5 times bigger than ya extraction. Hope that makes sense.

Passive intake would be air coming in to your room through an open door or something. Fan assisted intake would be fan assisted ie a fan sucking air into your room through some flexible ducting.

thanx .will have to go for passive intake so do i make a hole say opposite end of extractor,to fit a few metres of ducting on outside, and seal round hole with tape.does that sound ok?

As long as air is able to enter the room at a rate equal to that which is going out that will be ok.

passive intake needs to be substantially more than active intake...

Hi ALL,

I use a rvk 125 with c/f and a passive intake which is 10"x5" .... I also use a 4" in line fan ( bought from focus for £18) which I simply place inside my drobe next to the passive intake... This is simply because I had the extractor going spare (from my previous setup) and if I didn't use the intake fan then I would add an extra passive cut-out 10"x5" as this would allow more air into me drobe.....

Heres a shot of the passive cut-out
Attached Image

And heres one of the 4" with ducting into me res. tank (to keep the temps down) ducting also has slits in it to spread air around me drobe....
Attached Image

Oh, and heres one of the rvk and c/f
Attached Image

Hope this helps

No ya dont want ya intake straight across from ya extractor. Ya want ya intake close to ya floor as far away from ya extractor as ya can get to avoid the new air being sucked straight back out again. Not sure what ya room looks like but I would bore a series of holes along the skirting board height of the wall opposite ya extractor. If ya fan is 6 inch make 5 6inch holes and then get some ducting that is light proof say a meter for each hole have 500mm in ya room 500mm out of ya room, going through each of the holes. This way ya not gonna have any light leaks. As long as each end is hanging down so light cant go straight through this would be sound.

Thats why people use inline fans to draw air into the room, you won't need a ruddy great hole somewhere. There are loads of variations to this, it all depends on your setup.
