I've never seen any mold
And yes, riddling is, I suggest, essential with JAB+JI.

I also recommend that, if using JAB+JI for seeds or cuts, that it be moistened by way of bottom watering, as this allows the compost to retain a friable nature, which in turn gives rise to first class root development. Roots, especially young ones, will not enjoy any claggy, over wet pots full of rock solid compost ;)

It certainly needs riddling but you don't have much waste and I'm yet to get a modly bag, that would be down to how it's been stored not produced.

Dont get me wrong, it was a lot, but it put me off.
Although I did pot up some AF to go outside with it.

Will it harm my plants?

So true!

I always like to water from the bottom when potting up, so roots go searching.

I only water sideways, under a strict zero-G environment. :stoned:

I'm using the newer, perlite-less JAB + JI for the second time at the moment, with a little added rockdust and innoculated with symbio endo. A few have also had a bit of calcified seaweed. Doesn't seem as hydrophobic as the first bag I tried and the plants seem to like it, though it is on the hot side (could be what I've added):

On the subject of riddling, do y'all chuck out the bigger peat lumps and wood bits then? If so how much do you chuck out from each bag, on average? I've only ever bothered removing stones (and the odd bit of glass or painted wood) and everything that doesn't riddle easily gets broken up until it does and chucked back in. Maybe I've been lucky with what I've tried over the years but I never get more than a handful of waste in a 50-60l bag(riddling 3 times). I figure it's mostly peat and decaying wood, which mycorrhizae and bacteria like so throwing it out seems silly. Am I wrong to think & do that?
Give a man a bud and he'll have bud for the day... Show him how to grow his own, and he'll have bud for about a week..

I use it and find it very good and very nice consistency.
I also like to mix the jab+Ji with sure start seed compost.

I'm using it now for two seedlings, been 5 days and I must say they look better than their sisters in a MP B&Q :)

Very unpleased on the 20L bags from morrisons.
Last night I found half a plastic bag and some big twigs, never had this before and there seed nd cutting is still very nice straight out the bag.
I've had bad vibes from the 20L bags in the past 4 weeks.

Ive swore by this JAB & JI for years now but have been buying it from a few different morrissons this year and i have to say it has changed. (ive only found 20l bags)
Im not too fussed about the odd bit of plastic or the odd twig - a good riddle before use gets rid of that.
Im not even bothered by fungus gnats as i freeze the compost overninght before use and this gets rid of em.
Fact is, its not the same as it used to be....I dont know why - its not too hot...the plants just dont like it anymore.
The roots seem to want to get out of it rather than root through it.

My judgement of comes from how long before roots show through the bottom holes after pot-up and they are taking over 3 weeks even with granules which i never used to use in the past.
The roots used to show through after a few days before i got this batch in.
Im now mixing it 50/50 to get rid as i bought quite a few bags.

Sorry Arnold but its back to Levingtons with added JI for me....its consistent and the plants have always loved it.

Peace n mud.

I've just taken delivery of 2 60l bags, works out at just under £9 a bag including delivery.I almost had to go with westlands this grow because I've not got the time to make the 40mile round trip for the JAB.

Maybe the 60L bags are ok...???? I dont know cos i can only source the 20L locally.

maybe they put a bit of crap (chemistry) in the 20L bags to boost it a bit for the supermarket shopper?

I dont know whats wrong with the bags that ive got but im giving it a miss this year and sticking with Levingtons MP & JI.
If i find some JAB & JI in the bigger bags i'll try it but im really put off using it again after buying these little bags this year.
TBH im gutted cos it really was the best i'd used and now i have to go with second place Levingtons.

Anyone else had a problem with the 20L bags?... Have you used the 20L bags arnold?

Can't say as I've ever seen the 20L bags, myself.
I'll need some more compost thsi week, so I'll see what is at my usual source. I bet its just stacks of 60L bags :upside:
