Cannabis is now a class C drug

More people will become addicted to hard drugs because of the change in the law on cannabis, according to one of the region's leading drug workers.
Mandy Stevens, who as resettlement manager, works with recovering drug addicts at Yeldall Manor near Maidenhead, believes the move will make drug problems worse.

She said the majority of addicts at the centre start off as cannabis users before moving onto hard drugs.

The drug was reclassified on Thursday, and is now graded as Class C, with steroids and anti-depressants.

Opportunity lost

"My experience is that it leads onto hard drugs," she said. Another problem, she told the BBC, was that many people arrested for cannabis already had hard drugs problems, and they could slip through the net.

"Because so many people won't be arrested, we may lose the opportunity of putting intervention programmes in place," she said.

The Government says the law change makes drug laws credible and focuses police efforts on the most dangerous drugs.

Grrr, if that stupid bitch is a drug worker, I pity the poor souls that have passed through her hands. I was thinking about this walking back from cashing my giro (possibly something to do with all the bagheads outside the post office, probably waiting for a pensioner to rob, and all the pissheads staggering through Brighton with cans of spesh) and I'm just about sick of the whole druggies label. Pot aint to blame, alcohol aint to blame, smack aint to blame. The only thing to blame is the bagheads & pissheads. I'm a sober alcoholic, I had a problem with booze, so I don't drink. I did some stupid stuff when I was drinking, and stole from family to feed my habit, but I aint blaming the booze for my behavior - I was perfectly aware of what I was doing at the time, I just didn't care. It's like that asshole a few weeks ago who blames pot for his son becoming a crackhead & killing 2 people. Pot didn't make him do that, neither did crack, he was just a fucking scumbag. Drugs don't put anything into your mind that isn't already there, it's about bloody time folks started to take responsibility for their actions. A bag of shit is a bag of shit, regardless of if he's a bag of shit on drugs. I looked at the smackheads out today, and most of them would be wastes of fucking carbon even if they had never touched a drug in their life. They go out robbing so they can get high, perfectly aware of the consequences of their actions. It's not until they get caught that it becomes boo hoo hoo, I'm a drug addict, I need help. It's just the devil made me do it, same excuse, different scapegoat. Sure folks have problems with drugs (or in my case booze) but nobody forced them to start skin popping. When I'd had a drink, I did kinda lose control, as far as having another and another is concerned, but nobody ever forced me to take that first drink. I accept full responsibility for my behaviour as an alcoholic, and have done my best to make amends to the people I hurt, but I have never, and will never, blame my actions an anything other than myself. That's where the whole drug law thing is screwed, it seems everyone involved in "fighting the drug problem" has abdicated personal responsibility from all hard drug users, and we who partake in a relatively harmless drug have to reap the harvest they've sown.

cannabis has no addictive properties when taken pure.in the chemical head sense
