The grow season 2009 has started and a good friend of mine had send me 4 seeds of Parvati.3 of them sprouted along with some other varieties like the Purple Peace, a hybrid of Kullu Manali x Viking.
Plan is to grow the Parvati outdoors and see what it will do in the Dutch humid weather type.

@Hughie Green - They are doing just fine thnx

Little update

I transplant 3 Parvati's to some bigger containers. One of the Parvati's is showing leaves with 5 leaflets already. Most of the time the second pair of leaves are just 3 leaflets, but this one shows already 5 leaflets. If everything goes well the plan will be to make a hybrid with one of the Ghanaian sativa's i have.

nice one elmanito

my money is on it being a hot one this year - and if I'm right they should be pumping out the resins

Parvati x Ghanaian sounds like a fascinating cross

I've never (knowingly) smoked Ghanaina ganja, but I reckon your hybrid should have a very positive and uplifting vibe

I smoked Ghanianan ganja in the mid-nineties, bougth at a shop which had also varieties from Indonesia, Philippines,Jamaica & Thailand. Not available anymore :puke:
The temperatures are going up and down like a wave with a max of 49 C with a humidity of 15% and a min of 9 C with a humidity of 80% in the greenhouse. The Parvati and the Ghanianan have better resistance against these extremes than some of the Danish varieties i have noticed.I hope i will have a Parvati strain with a high CBD content.

What i read about the Ghanianan sativa's is that they have besides a high THC also a high THCV content which seems to decrease the munchies caused by THC, according to Robert Connell Clarke in his book Hashisch.

sounds like my kind of shop!

I noticed I never got the munchies smoking Afropips' Malawi hybrids, which were also likely to have THCV

looking forward to the updates - all best :yep:

The shop was the only one i found at that time with a big collection of several landrace varieties.

Little photo update.Everything is going well. Most of the plants in the greenhouse have to do with the extreme temperatures & humidity

Posted Image

The Parvati seems to like the temperatures.3 plants of 4 are transplanted in bigger containers, but no pre flowering are shown yet.

hey - yeh, I think that the Parvati will enjoy those conditions a lot while they are in veg stage --- in March and April the Himalaya will be in full bright sun and dry --- by the end of April and during most of May it will be hot and intensely bright, then during monsoon from mid May to September it will get humid and hot, sometimes very cloudy, sometimes intense sun, and a hell of a lot of rain...

the humidity will not be a problem for them until after mid flowering I think --- monsoon can last past equinox in a late monsoon, when most Himalayan lines will already be well into flowering - esp. jungli plants, but also farm plants

these are some of the reasons why I think Himalayan lines have potential in amongst the genepool for acclimatisation to European conditions, because although it is not ideal for them to be damp during flowering, Himalayan lines can endure late monoons lasting sometimes past the end of September

of course, in the Himalaya it will not usually be a good season for charas if monsoon lasts too long --- however, last year was an exception to the rule, because monsoon did last late, but then from early Oct to mid Nov was incredibly bright and hot, so the plants were pumping out resin - Kumaon did not have a great season, but further south and east in Nepal saw some great charas being produced

@Matsi
They really love the temp. in the greenhouse

At this moment everything is going just fine with the Parvati's.One of the Parvati's showed little pre flowering, but the plant was a male.I've got more than enough males of several varieties.
On this photo you can see the difference between the Parvati (right, one of the little ones of the Parvati) and a Nepal (left) from the Pokhara region.I received some seeds and only this one came up, but the plant grows nice and steady.

Posted Image

If the other Parvati's also turn out to be males, than i use one of the them to pollinate this Brazilian female which is growing outside. This variety seems also to have a high content of CBD.
