i have just started my first grow with coco and i am already impressed with the medium
question should i regularly flush with coco like i do with my nft system on plain ph adjusted water or should i use a weeker nutrient solution i have read that i should never use plain water on coco.Plase help i am using formulex at the mo and will then change to ionic next week.
also i would b pleased if some one could give me some pointers on the ec i should use in coco the plant is 10 days old and i have just fed it on formulx at c 0.9 and it looks great even better than my one in nft. so some help to a first timer in coco would be great.
THANX all you great 420ers!!

Personally haven't flushed weekly in coco...

I hand water....

I flushed a couple of plants that were looking a bit poorly early on....

I make sure I feed with correct pH and EC , and add feed till run off....

As long as you not overfeeding, and plants looking healthy this should be okay....

But do make sure you water till run off....

Hi Mate , Im growing 1st time in coco too . A friend of mine does it this way & he gave me some ideas with the nutes . When their in the seedling stage (from germ to 2 weeks old) I increased the ec from 0.20 to 0.50 by the end of the 2nd week . Then Ive been increasing the feed by 0.10 steadily aiming to get to 1.0 by the time it goes into flower 4th/5th week. Im not experienced at all & someone will prolly give you some better advice but mine have been doing ok so far on this regime . Check the diary B)

I flushed everytime I changed out the water so yea, every week or when you feel lazy maybe every two weeks. Whenever I let it get longer than that, the roots started looking grim and smelling really bad.

I grow in coco. Amazing stuff. I once had a Phoss burning prob when using PK13/14. So I flushed the coco and made the prob worse. Was told after by an experienced coco grow to never flush with coco due to it being very different to soil. Its very Nitrogen hungry and leaches out Phoss (think thats right. Thats why I had P problems.) Its very hard to over water in coco and in fact you should water alot more with coco than you do with soil. I was watering nearly everyday with excellent results. 60 grma dry for first time in coco and only 2nd ever grow. Still trying to top that. Best adviuce I was given was dont treat it like soil. Theyare completely different. But also very similar. If that makes sence. All the advantages of soil(a medium for the roots to anchor in,and protected by the coco, jus more natural then straight hydro) with growth rates similar to a hydro grow. Thats where the extra watering comes in. You should never let the coco dry out. Hope this helps abit.

i only ever flush in coco when changing nutes or changing to pk13/14 but if you give them enough run-thru to flush and replace the salts (pour until 20% has dripped through) you should never have to flush

The only time I would even consider flushing would be with a severe salt build up on the top of the medium.....in which case you are probably overfeeding them anyway. This is rare, but I've seen it.
I would also be tempted to flush if I had some kind of nutrient lock out.

If anyone does need to flush, then use a week nutrient solution at the correct pH.

As for the EC levels......I know it's the same old thing trotted out, but let the plants tell you what they want.
Work the EC level up though, don't go heavy and burn them.
