Few people have asked
and i felt i was taking over CTOAUN's thread
so heres a few pics of my baccy

will update when there is something worth noting

Started 200-300 seeds in the green prop (£1 out of season Wilkos)
watered from below

potted up as required

seem to halt growth when pot bound to no ill effect
so will hold the bigger ones till the lil'uns catch up

was going to go up to 3 gallons but may need to be 5

These are Virginia gold few quid a thousand on the bay

seeds should be sprinkled on the surface and misted or watered from below
then covered
They need light to germinate

no feed given yet
plain old cheap Lidl compost £2/40L

didn't germ in tent (3 weeks) the did as soon as put on windowsill

I mist with plain water every night

I grew some tobacco a few years back. Not to smoke, because our season is not long enough for a complete tobacco season, but for the hell of it.
It was an interesting large leaf ground cover plant. I had them in the wife's flower garden. I still have a small envelope of seeds, maybe I should do it again this year.

what do you mean when you say the season is too short?
to produce flowers?

straight up 6foot ive heard/read

I think our summer season is too short, Central Midwest, USA. September things start to cool down and the farmers start pulling out their corn/soybean crops.
First frost hits at the end of Sept. to the mid of Oct., depending on the weather.
Right now, it is still too early to plant a vegetable garden outside. Farmers are now putting in their crops as crop insurance is available now. Plant before the insurance kicks in date, not covered for any damage

They got to about 4-5 ft tall. If we had a long growing season like Virginia, where the tobacco crops are, they would be some tall plants. Middle of May is the garden season here. Can't do citrus trees here, not enough summer and they won't survive our normal winters.

so I may be disappointed

hopefully the speed they are growing at now they will do 5 foot May-July i reckon

maybe that's why I was told to start in Feb?
I did get these seeds from a UK grower who harvests this var. and seeds
its 'supposedly' north hemisphere acclimatised
as i believe Virginia is quite north in US (I'll look in a mo)

may throw a spanner in the works

i guess they have an extra month from April-May
any idea how big their plants are when they put them out?

ETA getting 36 degrees north so yeah that is like spain i guess (thats probably wrong too)

just read, there weather can be very changeable due to geographic reasons so it can be:
dry, humid, stormy, cold, hot etc. all in one year
so i hope that means were ok

grew a load of golden v 3 yrs back on rooftop garden ,grew huge leafs 2 -3ft plant around 6ft with lovelly flowers and scent , from one flower head i had as much seed as i purchased also now have it growing in every pot and every bed on the roof ,it;s a wind blown self seeding disaster ,,,

do you mind if i ask what region your in?
sounds like it went too well, a problem i can only wish for

I grow Nicotania Sylvestris here in Scotland and it self seeds here no problem, we do have a slug/snail problem and they tend to eat all the seedlings as they appear so I save some seed and just sow indoors and then plant out when they are bigger.

Here in Feb., we normally have a foot+ of snow on the ground and the ground is hard frozen. The farmers almanac always states that potatoes should be planted on Good Friday, but the last few years there was still snow. We normally only have crop weather from May-Oct at the latest, six months, and the last month or so is only to allow in field drying time. If the weather makes farmers have to pull the corn/soybeans early, the farmers need to put the crop into dryer bins to finish drying before going to market.
I wish I lived further south where the growing season can extend up to 10 months.

Last time I was in Virgina, many years ago, the tobacco was as tall as our corn gets. 6ft+

I grew some of these last year.

Grew really quick at first then stopped and did nothing.

Eventually I decided to give them some nutes and they went off like a rocket!
