Very quick question. I need a very quiet pump for a dripper system. 4 plants, 4 drippers each (in a ring with t-piece). Any suggestions please, I don't want them pissing out, just dripping!

Thanks.

Any pump will do tbh.....you just need a fairly low output one.
Add a 'releif by-pass' just above the pump outlet (there is probably a proper term for it lol ).....use a t-piece with an in-line tap and a short length of hose.....you can use this to regulate the flow to the drippers and the excess just feeds straight back in to the res.

Hope that make sense :)

Oh, and buy a spare pump ;)

As FAI said fella but I went through the hassle of buying air pumps only for them after a while to start vibrating & being noisy. "But hey worry no more because I have found TETRATEC". Yes thats right, these revolutionary new pumps are fantastic.

Sorry slipped into bargain tv mode there. lol

These pumps are ace though as they have no diaphragm inside so no vibration or rattling & you can buy them from any pet shop, I'm running one now, cost me 40 quid, well worth it.

This is the one I use but they come in different sizes & I have also found them cheaper on Amazon.

Hope this helps.

I was suggesting using a typical pond feature pump.....something like a maxijet or flojet.
They run a lot quieter than an airpump dripper and using the relief valve I described, you can adjust them to deliver as much or as little water as you want to the drippers.

Thanks guys, I thought the air pumps were just to keep the water from going stagnant. I can't use an air pump for drippers can I?? Don't I need both?

I was going to get the tetra air pump and the maxi jet.

Is that right??

There is a set up that uses an airpump to force nutrient up and through a dripper ring.....if you look at aquafarms or waterfarms, that is how they work.....but they can be a bit noisey.

Personally, I would go with a maxijet or flojet (with the relief tap) to run the drippers and use the airpump with a stone to oxygenate the nutrient.

Yeah that sounds better to me, keep it simple!

So the relief tap is there so that the more water that goes through it (back to res) the less that goes to the drippers?

I'm sure that's what you mean.

Yes Bluez....exactly that. Open the tap for less water to the drippers and close it for more.
The feedback into the res also keeps the nutes nicely mixed :)

Either or, really. I use the airpump with my 30l homemade aqua farm(will be setting this up when I do my TD grow), I plug the airfeed into my homemade dripper this pumps air in, which forces the feed up through the dripper stem. The other outlet on the pump I use to drop a bubbler into the lower res.

Morning gentleman,

So I got my water pump, air pump, pipes and connectors.

In about 10 mins I'd set up a fully working dripper system!!! WITH regulating tap! ;-)

At the mo the tap is actually in the res, (tested but not in use), I've read a few posts about having a piece of tube so that when the pump stops it doesn't sython the rest of the res. can someone expand on this please.

I'd guess this is only if the red is higher then the drippers?

Also I presume I'm ok with the regulator tap actually being next to the pump in the res ( it comes off a junction piece and works perfectly).
