Hi Arnold,
The white residue was just on the inside of the bag plastic not on the compost itself but it smelt strongly of manure!
Ive still potting up using it and they doin ok just wondered if its "normal" to have that white stuff on bags of compost?or is it a sign that the compost is dodgy?
.....I wonder how many extra bedrooms that creature to the left has?

Horse shit spores, what ever it is i never found it in my bag and i don't want to.

Also while i'm on here my bags had ZERO perlite in them a very little plastic bits. The original cheese is going mental in this stuff, i'm a first time user and very happy so far.

Cheers Arnold

I got one of the 50ltr bags of JAB MP + JI at the w/e for potting up my tomatoes, I was really surprised to see it was a poorer quality than what is normally in the 20ltr bags (the size I've always bought to date - bit obvious walking into a flat with a 50ltr sack of compost!!!)

Anyway the 50ltr was full if twigs and the soil did not feel as rich.

Just my 2p. Good luck and hope u get it back in stock soon.

Cheers

lol
Suddenly, its vanished from round here. Can't get it for love nor money. So I am using either straight JAB, or Levington's multi~purpose. The latter seems to be better than the former, although I cannot say as I am that keen on either of them. Both seem to be mostly made of wood that is not fully rotted down, and a little loam/peat thrown in on top for good measure.

Been working somewhere that sells this and the stuff they had on the 3 for 2 offer (big yellow band on bags) definitely seemed lower quality than the newer, normal priced stuff. I realise storage plays a big part (and the older pallets may have just been sat outside at the distributors) but this was much heavier and less spongy, and full of bark and sticks. Also got the white powder stuff in a few bags when I left them in the shed, but I think it was just mould from the compost being too wet, as it seemed to disappear as soon as it was used or left open to get air to it.
Give a man a bud and he'll have bud for the day... Show him how to grow his own, and he'll have bud for about a week..

I've had this too. I closed and taped the bag up for a few weeks after I'd used it and when I reopened it the white mould was there. It doesn't seem to be a problem though.
Just what is it that you want to do?

I can suggest Jacks Magic (as can many others on here) Organic or at least close to organic with Seaweed fertilzer in it.
A little nutrition light, perfect for seedlings but will probably have you feeding veg nutes a week or 2 earlier than normal. Very high quality consistency, open, crumbly texture. Largely peat and sand, get a bag of pure JI and mix 40pct JI and 60pct Jacks (a little verm if you use it) and you have a rocking compost mix.

I used JAB multi purpose for my last grow. It wasnt that bad really. This time I tried a bag of Erin multi purpose and first impressions tell me its ok,nice and fluffy with no hard lumps of shite through it. Not too enviromentaly friendly as they are digging up Irish peat bogs but we cant have it all ways I suppose.
I used Levingtons for long enough and found it up to the job
Away to start my next grow today. Killers, blues, smellyberry f1s and f2s and some nonames so will let ye all know how the Erin multi performs
