OK I got this deep fat fryer for crimbo, it's a nice little one, does enough chips for two. And I was looking at the thermostat on it and thinking... Why not melt some butter in it and add trim direct, I mean, no water at all, just use the fryer to control the butter temperature, which is what the water in the usual method is for, with the thermostat set to 100C or whatever is best?

I could make up a basket with fairly fine metal mesh, put some trim in, stir it round for a while, drain and discard, put some fresh trim in, and so on. You could get the butter pretty strong that way and avoid the water-soluble bitter-tasting stuff to some extent. The basket would avoid the danger of the trim getting near to the element and getting overheated and degrading the cannabinoids. But on the other hand I doubt the oil/butter allows the outside of the element to get much above the set temperature.

Without the water in the way the good stuff would be more free to dissolve into the butter. The whole process should be a lot quicker?

OK so what's the flaw? I bet there is one.

- Do you know what you get if you cross a sheep with a kangaroo?
- A woolly jumper?
- No. It was horrible. We had to kill it with a shovel.

link - Cannabis shown to reduce invasiveness of cancer - National Cancer Institute

The lethal dose ratio (LD-50) for cannabis is estimated to be around 1:20,000 to 1:40,000 which means you have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much cannabis as is contained in one cannabis joint to induce death. This means you would have to consume something like 1,500 lbs in 15 minutes to induce a lethal response. There are no known fatalities from the substance and it is considered non- toxic...

Add to that the fact that the thc would probably be vapourised too! It was just a funny thought, but totally unrealistic.

So I was going to suggest using ghee
