Roughly how many weeks into the grow, and at what stage, do you start supplementing with nutrients?

Roughly the third week of flowering. By which time the plants will have been in their final post for around 4 or 5 weeks.

Would you recomend the use of plant magic granules, with your jab+ji?

Yes, I use them at every potting up stage.

Arnie

Do you add anything else to that compost or do you keep it as is throughout the grow?

The only thing I add is Granules, to innoculate. Although, see below....

Is this alright for germination and seedlings?

I use it for everything. I sometimes use a pinch of Perlite for cuts to root, but not always. I find they root quicker with a pinch of it, although this varies from strain to strain.

Thanks A

Been scratching my head for years at the garden centre wondering which brand to go for.

I might give this a go instead of the westlands this time round.

Thanks Arnie.

I can only seem to find the standard JAB MP without John Innes - is this stuff any good or should I keep looking for the added JI stuff?

I would. By all accounts, it beats Westlands hands down, although I have not tried them side by side myself so I can only report rumours heard.

Keep looking. The standard Multi Purpose they produce does not get such good reports from users. Some cases of variable value and usefulness, I gather.

I've used the standard JAB MP cut with about 10-20% sterilised topsoil/loam - no complaints. Re the Westlands MP with added JI I've had good results with that too.

Good to read that BP.
Especially regards the Westlands. Have you used it for a long time, and do you find it consistent?

I think I've done most of my grows in Westlands, maybe a couple in JAB MP with JI (when I've been able to find it) and a couple in the JAB MP with added topsoil. Difficult to compare as different strains, different style and in the older grows CFL rather than HPS, but I don't recall having any problem or big difference in performance that I attributed to the compost. All of them get a little rockdust mixed in and use granules - I generally start feeding with a very low dose 2 weeks after final pot up.

Good stuff Arnold,

What about a prefared seedlings compost? or are they all mainly the same?

Thanks in advance.

Bluebell.

I don't use them, Bluebell, so cannot comment on them much. I find that the JAB+JI is just fine for seeds, seedlings plants, fresh cuts and rooting clones. Its the only compost I use, full stop. TBH, I believe things like seedling compost, lite mixes and specialised composts are just a money trap for us, we don't need special composts as we are growing a hardy annual; a good tough, vigorous and energetic plant, that is happy is most mediums.

I used Fishmix, but it was so long ago I forget in what compost.
Sorry mate, no wisdom to offer on that front. But Fishmix should work well. BB Bloom? no, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Expensive and not very useful.

Farmer, I use PM "Oldtimer" range. It knocks seven shades of you know what out of BioBizz.
Fishmix on its own, was a good feed and produced well.
But not as well as PM OT Bloom.

(apologies for a bit offtopic mr layne)
To farmer g.
iirc OT1 mentioned that if you do go for OT bloom , you ought to cut the fishmx out during flower . As i recall this is because OT bloom is an all in one feed and requires no extra for best results . He said something about although the plants 'll look happy enough , the extra nutes could affect your eventual yield.

tricky to come by this compost round me , i'll havre to try the aforementioned supermarket.
