Ah yeah, of course that makes perfect sense, Groovelick.

Still, I'm wondering about a thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer and a mechanical stirrer. Maybe next year :wassnnme:

There has been talk of using a slo cooker. I want to find out what sort of temps I want to look for before I buy one though.

I just use a fork to stir mine. ;)

e2a:

Just looked. Seems a hi setting on a slo cooker is about 90C. Not quite as hot as boiling obviously. But not sure if it would matter for a butter extraction.

So I'm using a glass bowl to catch, a metal colander to hold the mess and two fine paper hand towls (from a very expensive hotel) as a filter.

After I poured the boiling hot mass of plant, oil and water into the colander/bowl, I lifted the colander to allow the mess to drain a bit. After a minute of draining, I put the colander into another bowl so it could sit as I gathered up the filter into a ball and, using a fork, pressed the excess hot fluids out.

That gave me this bowl of steamy fluid.

I was trying to decide how to squeeze the vegetable mass without burning myself and then remembered that I could use my french press. I poured the cannabis into the press and left the filters in the colander. After pressing the cannabis once and pressing the filters in the colander again, I rinsed both in boiling water again to get the last dregs. I managed to squeeze the filters well, afterwards, with out huting myself. :yahoo:

I could have done another rinse or two but didn't feel a need to. ;) 2nd pic is after the oil and water has seperated a bit.

So here we are at the 4 hour mark since the brew went into the cold locker. The ghee has set up nicely and the water has just started to frost over. Probably would have been fine at 3 hours. So about 5.5-6 hours to cook up and isolate the ghee.

So we poke a couple of holes in the butter and pour off the water. The water is waste but may be okay for a compost pile or something.
Once the water is gone, break the butter into chunks and store in a tub in the refrigerator. I'm going to make some cookies now, but won't have one until tomorrow. If I can resist. :sweaty:

Okay then. One batch made 19 cookies, one of which I have already tried about 15 minutes ago (is that a chesty rush I feel the tingles of?). :D

So 1/2 oz per 19 cookies or close to .8G of trim per cookie. One cookie should not be a whole lot of anything then. We'll see. Time to cook up the next batch.

Interesting stuff Rand,
the ghee looks like a good idea as you do not need to get rid of the dairy solids from the final product. Your butter looks nice and clean :guitar:
How is the cookie? do you feel :alien2: yet?

Heya Mm. Feeling a wee bit loopy but nicely mild. Unfortunately I'm tired so it's a bit hard to sort out from that (it's late here). Getting the odd lil flashes here and there around my body.

I'll probably cook up the last of the cookies and go to bed. Maybe tomorrow I'll try two cookies. :naughty:

One thing I keep forgetting to mention. Each cookie is a pretty precise size (1 tablespoon of cookie dough). This is so I can get an idea of how the cooking proportions are (how much canna per cookie for instance) so when I make my next batch, I can adjust the strength to what I want. I'll also know, roughly, how baked I'll get with any particular cookie.

So one cookie was gooood! :D :stoned: :D Got very stoned, went to bed at 2 am and woke up at 2 pm. My eyes are red and I'm still feeling stoned after a cup of coffee. I'll try a two cookie test in a few days.

So yeah, still very stoned and working on a 2nd cup of coffee to cope. So out of 1 oz of trim and popcorn bud I got 40 very stony cookies. :yahoo:
