As the title says, this is an attempt to grow some tobacco for my own use. The main plan is to use the leaves as a blunt wrap, but we will see. These are unknown seeds given to me by a friend, if I have success, I will buy specific strains for next year :yep:

As u can see, the seeds are minuscule..

They have been put in coco, 5-10/pot (30 or so seeds)

They are now in a propagator until they germinated. If more than 1 grows from each pot, I will try to seperate them into individual pots. Temps in my veg room are between 20C & 28C..

Once germinated, most of them will be taken to the alotment to finish their life. They will be grown in a 50/50 mix of manure & soil from the garden, it has been treated every year for over a decade :yep:

I'm still reading online on the tobacco plants likes & dislikes, but it seems very similar to our favourite plant, I just haven't got my head round it properly. Need to start tho before its too late. If I get too many I'm gonna take 1 or 2 to my GG spots & grow both ingredients for a spliff side by side :yinyang:

nice mate
put mine in around Feb

have to say virginia gold took 3-4 weeks to sprout
then was slow but they are really taking off now

they may be North hemisphere acclimatised so dont treat em to soft
thats my tip to you

good luck

PS
maybe put more seeds in too

dont know how good germination rates are

i put roughly 2-300 and have 30 or so decent plants now

im only after 3 or 4 plants this time round for my first go, so if i dont get that by the end of the month, then ill throw some more in :)
could i feed it canna nutrients?? or would good compost be enough?? they will be watered with rain water if it gets too dry, unlikely up here tho lol

no probs
its my first baccy grow too so no expert by far

they took ages to sprout thats why I was suggesting put more in now
that way you wont be late in the season

as for nutes - dont know, was gonna use what i have and flush well
but compost maybe enough, haven't fed yet

was gonna chuck em in 3gallon buckets of compost
but now read they need 1m2

what have you read on feeding, spacing etc.
im guessing you are planting in ground?

Tobacco seeds need light to germinate, so sprinkle on moist compost, cover with a clear cover and stick under a light (sun being a rare and unreliable light source round these parts).
A quarter pound of ishen is a dollar ten cent, I get so high I can't pay my rent.

i havent read much on feeding tbh m8 but i have read they need to be in rows, seperating the rows by 3ft & the plants by 2ft in each row, but i have seen a cali crop grown & they have about 1.2m each  im planting 3 in the ground at the alotment, but will be using a potato planter from the poundshop to keep in my garden. with regards to numbers, i dont need alot (even tho im smoke about 2oz a week of backy)the main reason for this is to try and get myself a few BIG leaves to use a blunt wraps for a few spliffs after the GG season is over. the thing i like most about it all is that you can wet the dried leaf to make it pliable again, but i still need to look into that yet.

I dont know if this is true but the old grandad reckons back in the day his pops used to paint yes PAINT pottasium nitrate on the outside of cured leaves :headpain: to allow them a better moisture content without them going out all the time. It surely would have tasted foul :soap: maybe it was minute ??either way Im not suggesting you do it just thought was a funny thing to do. Maybe its common practice even today in the bacci industry. I know they wash it in choc. lol funny that the tobac industry uses more chocolate than confectionary! lol (me grandads no bullshitter either) ... I'll have ask someone what great grandad died of!
They wanna buy it kilos. They wanna buy it grams. You know they're down with the metric system. And they never fuck around.

Think they like a good high-N feed, were growing for leaves after all.

You have done very well getting some sprouts already, you must be on top of the enviro +rep
and was thinking of a 'loose' diary, not sure where to put it,
here or in the diaries section?

was thinking just a few pics now and then rather than full blown updates
if it will interest i will do it :B):

not sure i like being 'watched' though lol

I looked into this a few years back and thought I read somewhere they take 18 months before they're ready to be harvested, but have just read that that's :soap:

I wouldn't mind giving it a go and seeing your progress I think I might.. Where did you guys get your seeds from?

Nice one.. which strain did you get? Or was it non-specific? Just looking to see what they make Drum out of to see if I can re-create the beautiful smoothness and taste lol
