Had a few bags over a few years from greens and always been fine. I get the gnats in compost from b&q or a garden center which has kept them outside

That's unlucky, I've never had a problem with PM soil and I've only ever bought it from Greens.

if your left over compost from your last grow had bugs in as you said in your other thread http://www.uk420.com...9 then how do you know the new compost was contaminated? and how do you know that the issue isn't with how you have stored the old stuff? I brought vine weevil into my grow from a outside stored old bag of compost, how do you store yours

PM has always been fantastic and i've used it for lots of grows now, how can you be sure they were present in the soil?, there could be unwanted visitors in your room or as distracted said it could be from where you stored it.
Hope you get it sorted anyhow. :yinyang:

Funny nuff...

I have been noticing a few ickle bugs in my veg room, tiny little things that appear near bottom of pot it seems as i pick it up one oe 2 little white looking dots i see crawling, very small they are..

Never had/noticed before with PM soil but i did buy a new bag a wk or so back and only noticed the bugs since then..

Matter of fact i spotted the fookers a day after potting up into new soil..

Hmmmmm.....

I did have springtails once a while back but not seen any for the last couple of grows, using PM soil but I've never had any fungus gnats or anything with this soil.

its not necessarily Greens or PMs soil thats to fault, it might just be a coincidence we've both got springtails.

Owderb pointed out before that certain critters live in house's & are easy to get carried
into your house from outside by you or by a pet, think we need more folk to check their soil when watering,
springtails aren't hard to miss

The chances of Springtail contamination coming from Green's are pretty much zero. The soil there is stored inside dry warehouse units on pallets and pallet racking, not outside like at garden centres. There is no plant material or natural habitat for the Springtail anywhere near them and with the amount of soil they sell the soil will only be in their warehouse for a few days at a time.

The Sprintail would have to cross a wide, dry, concrete car park and jump up onto a bag of heavily compressed soil (if they could get to it through the pallet wrap) and then get inside the soil through a tiny hole and start to reproduce.

Pretty much impossible.

The two most likely sources of contamination are either from the manufacturer of the soil or brought in on your own clothes or pets. Even the delivery driver is a potential source, he or she will be in and out of gardens all day delivering parcels.

Blaming Green's is the natural reaction as the soil was bought from them, but in reality the Springtails were either in the soil before they got it or came along afterwards.
