The Mayans said the world would end a phase in 2012[/quote]

Errm no they didn't, one of the cyclical calendars ends in 2012 and the Mayans made no such predictions

We now know that the sun will enter a new solar cycle in 2013

Errm, wrong again the solar cycle peaks in 2012/2013 as it does every 11 years and there is nothing special about the current cycle just like the millions we've already been through without mishap.

Anyone ever wondered if the Mayans knew a little more about the solar cycles than we do now

Nope, we know far more about the solar cycles than they did through direct observation and measurement. If you folk would learn some basic science you'd stop making such fools of yourselves in public ;)

One of the Mayan calendars (they had a number of different calendars) happened to end in 2012. All calendars have to end. The Mayan civilization just ended before they needed to start a new one (and I reiterate it was only ONE of the numerous Mayan calendars that ended in 2012). Had the Mayan civilization not ended it would have started a new calendar when required, beginning in 2013.

I hope the world ends next year so I don't have to listen to this bullshit any more.

I have a friend who believes strongly in this and his horoscopes it's made me immune to it to some extent.

If the calender is counting down then surely they're not that smart, time moves forwards.

Flipped a coin it fell on the floor, yep times moves forward, you guys delve into complex mathematics to prove time is non existent or whatever (Or take enough acid) but I'm pretty convinced for our purposes time moves forwards.

I'm ambivalent about the human perception of time being unidirectional. Does/did/will it matter?

I watched a programme about this the other night..they said that the prediction was for a dramatic change in the world..not disaster just an unspecified change

had one of my cannabis induced moments last night as my brain linked this predicted change to the submission I made to the wolfson prize.

If the proposal I made was to be implimented it would dramatically change the world, making this new cycle of the Mayan calander, one of dramatic change(as predicted)

Was at a mates the other day having a smoke with him and another mate, his daughters boyfriend was also in the room but he doesn't smoke. Randomly the boyfriend starts going on about 2012 and sadly he'd obviously just seen a video on his iphone or something as he kept making hilarious quotes to back it up such as

" 12 tribes, 12 races and 12 calendars and they all say the same thing, pretty weird innit?" "They predicted hitler and tsunamis, they actually said when Hitler would die!"

My mate say's to this "What it actually said Hitler will die on this date?"

"Yep"

lol

Oh and watch out for either a massive burnt out sun 10 times the size of our planet OR a comet, one of the two. personally my prediction for 2012 is the Marshmallow Man of Ghostbusters to turn up and kick some arse, "The traveller has come" lol

I've got a feeling a lot of people are gonna do some really stupid shit on Dec 20th this year lol Get your camera's ready, youtube will be waiting

I watched that as well

Did you notice all the beleivers they interviewed seemed to be selling something ,shelters ,books, and some sort of doomsday training which seemed to involve laying in the grass when people walk past :smokin:
