Does the contactor have a built in timer?

Plug the timer into the socket in the wall & put a plug in that & then plug the other plug into an extension, try to use an extension with a power surge protector for your own piece of mind & to save any unneeded accidents.

e2a. Don't use a normal timer from the local B&Q, there is a company called Plug&grow who do single timers that can deal with the power surge.

As long as its a seperate power source, then that is fine. Running the 2 plugs on 1 power bar is a no no in my book. For a contactor 2 do its job of relaying the leccy around the 'problem' their had to be a different power source. Hope that makes sense. ATB,reds.

fella thats what a contactor/relay is for ! it stops the surge going through the timer thats why you need 2x plugs

Run a 4 way extension from your socket and use that for both.
Surge protection is meaningless in this context. If you're going to bother with anything like that then an rcd makes more sense imo.

not needed ,as my esteemed collegue ~nobody~ said , they're for sensitive electronics
( and iirc someone here said they need replacing yearly due to internal components "wearing out " :ouch: )

no need with a contactor, a digi one may be best as tabs can get knocked on the dial types

The 'Plug n Grow' timers have built in contactors rated to a 600w light and can be used on their own. For extra piece of mind u could use these with a 2 plug contactor. Don't use cheap timers, even with a contactor. The minimum I'd use with a contactor is a Grasslin mechanical timer. Good quality ones.

Ps The new Plug n Grow timers are now rated to 1200w! Not that I ever would! 600w max for me thanks.

read the replies above dude

you can use the one outlet for your light

you're gonna need the other one/s for your fan & filter ( and anything extra like circulating fans)

This is also what I was reffering to hence recommending the surge protector.

I'm no electrician but I'd never advise someone something I wasn't 100% sure on but DON'T ever run a hps with a 2 plug contactor thru a power bar/extention lead that's coming from 1 plug. You plug 1 plug of Contactor into wall socket then run an extention lead from a diff wall socket over to the contactor and plug other plug into that. Timer goes on either. Sound advice an electrician friend gave me, cuz like I said. I'm no leccy. And the timer/contactor your on about are sound. Look for the Black ones. Maxibright I think. All in one jobs.
