Nobody should have to put up with racial abuse.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I was disgusted when I heard about this. The only thing I can say as a Liverpool fan is that it's not just a Liverpool thing, there are still racist throwbacks in many crowds at football games, this has just hit the press because of the Suarez thing (which I'm also pretty fucking gutted about as a Liverpool fan, cos I don't want that shit in my team or on the stands of my club ), the spotlight is on us now. That doesn't excuse it at all, and it's a shame the rest of the Kop didn't ostracise these morons and make them known to the stewards (no, that's not 'grassing', there's a difference but that's another topic).
There is still a lot of racism (and even more homophobia - I couldn't imagine a footballer coming out like Gareth Thomas did) in football, on the pitch and more so from the stands. And it is completely unacceptable. But I think it reflects the uncomfortable truth that there is still a lot of racism (and sexism, and homophobia - all the nasty little prejudices) in society, it's just that with 'political correctness' people don't say it out loud explicitly any more. As a wanky liberal 'do gooder', and all the other labels, I hate 'political correctness' more than the most right wing of right wingers, because PC language is a way of hiding your true meaning. It doesn't stop prejudice, it just means that cunts like Nick Griffin can wrap their prejudice up in seemingly harmless words. Cos people listen to the words used, not what is actually said.

personally, yes. I wouldn't ask for racial abuse but if it came my way I would do what any other adult should and take it on the chin. Words can't hurt you and i'm a little worried that so many adults need to "grass" on other adults and get someone else to sort out their problems. Is this fucking primary school or something? When I was a kid we were told to "grow up and ignore them". Wtf happened to being an adult? you know, letting things like this go over your head etc... People need to grow the fuck up, how are we supposed to get on as a society when adults are running round crying because they were called a name, it's pitiful.

I disagree utterly with just about every single word in that post.

"Words can't hurt you." is a complete nonsense, a primary school platitude that is told to children when they are being bullied to try and ease the pain, and it is a lie. Words CAN hurt you, words can cause psychological harm that wounds deeper than any physical hurt and the only people who think that words can't hurt are people who have never been on the end of sustained abuse.

When you have had words (that can't hurt) used as a weapon against you regularly all your life, to belittle you, to sap your self esteem, to chip at your psyche every day, then perhaps you will understand the power of words.

To expect someone to 'grow up' in the face of racial abuse - that is fucking pitiful.

I'm glad there are people on here with the same sort of views as me, I've enjoyed this site but of late stuff is abit off putting and off the topic! But atleast there is something we all love no matter what race we are, weed
