I have a continuous problem with thrips, I never fully eradicate them well the larvae i do but not the adults!!
this has been for about 2-3 yrs!!!, then last night my daughter was playing with one of those bats that zap bugs, I always thought they were a bit cruel but anyway I had a moment when i thought this could answer all my prayers, what is the chance if i run this over my plants that it would zap them, cause i just done my normal fairy liquid wash which has killed larvae and i think eggs again but within a few days i see adults fly from plants when i open door i only do it fairy/neem/plant invigorator and pyrhium killers until 2nd wk of flower could this zapper help for killing adults, any help appreciated or experience of this
cheers

I haven't been growing long (1st crop 4wks into flower), But I had thrips during veg. Do you pot up a lot? They could be in the compost. Also where is your intake?, Does it come from outside? No exp with the zapper tho. :yinyang:

I nuked my room & plants with 'westland plant rescue bug killer'. Seems to have got them all. I still have lil fruit fly type things (but I don't think they are thrips as I haven't seen any larvae on my plants) in my veg tent tho.

Thrips are small insects that live under the leaf, so the bug zapper wouldn't work as you would have to run it over the leaves. I believe those flying critters are fungus knats.

Stick some fly paper on top of the pots to stop the knats, but a more serious approach is needed for the thrips.

All I can suggest is finish the plants your growing then give the whole groom a good clean.

It could be worse, I've got the borg :wallbash:

If it is Thrips then I use Harkers Harka-mecin, 1ml/ltr Spray all over under and ontop, not past week 3 12/12 and it hasn't failed me yet. It costs 10 quid and you can get it from most online pet shops.

Have you tried the garlic and chilli spray you can make?, its ideal for indoors as it kills everything that flies/crawls apparently, even the good insects such as ladybirds. I'll put a recipe here just in case.
You can easily mix your own simple and effective sprays. Following are probably the most popular among those who like to keep chemicals out of the garden.

Soap Spray Insecticide
Detergent-based liquid soap, such as dishwashing liquid
Water
Mix one-tablespoon detergent per one gallon water in sprayer. Apply liberally to both tops and bottoms of leaves. Reapply about once a week, or after a rain.

Garlic Spray Insecticide
One whole garlic bulb
Two cups water
One gallon water
Combine in blender the entire garlic bulb and two cups water, and blend on high speed until garlic is finely pureed. Put in storage container and set aside for a day. Strain out pulp, and then mix liquid with one gallon water in sprayer. Spray tops and bottoms of leaves thoroughly. Apply about once a week, and after a rain.

Fungicide Spray Treats Powdery Mildew & other fungus
One gallon water
Three tablespoons baking soda
One teaspoon dishwashing liquid
One tablespoon bleach ( Warning - NO more than this amount )
Mix all ingredients in sprayer and spray all areas on the plant that look affected. It's best to remove all leaves and other parts of the plant that are the worst affected. Apply sparingly to unaffected areas, and keep in mind that too much bleach can harm the plant. Try to avoid getting it on healthy leaves.

Hot Pepper Spray Helps repel rabbits, deer, and other nibblers
6 - 10 Hot Peppers
2 cups water
1 quart water
Combine peppers and two cups water in blender and blend on high speed for 1 - 2 minutes. Pour in storage container with lid and put aside for a day. Strain through cheesecloth, and add this liquid to one quart of water in sprayer. Spray plants liberally every week and after a rain.

Garlic Fungicide Spray 2:
Fungicide and Insect repellent

Put in a blender: 1 whole head of garlic, 3 cups water, 2 Tbs canola oil, 4 hot peppers and a whole lemon. Blend until finely chopped. Steep mixture overnight. Strain through fine cheesecloth. Use at a rate of 4Tbs per gallon of water. Store unused portion in the refrigerator.

I have one - rather badly made but does the job - was never good at bat/ball games so end up swinging about like a nutter with it - very satisfying when you get a massive fly though.

I've gone through 3 of them last year :headpain: keep snapping at the handle.

I would spend hours catching flys then feeding them to a big spider that had its web at head height lol :shuriken:

The reason it wouldn't work is the bugs need to touch 2 wires to get zapped, trips are tiny, they look like what we call thunder flys round ere. But yellow, plus I don't think the plant would like being shocked.

Try using a sponge with soap on it.

I'm not really much to ask as I get plagued by them and now the dreaded mites so I'm going full chemical this time to nuke them all

Hope you have better luck than I've had :yinyang:

E2a that may work with the knats but a proper wet dry cycle will sort that out
