Cannabis and Anxiety

Hello,

I read some interesting :

Dr. Frankel from GreenBridgeMed (google) says:

"I was initially going to post some thoughts I have concerning Cannabis causing psychosis, but decided not to because in summary, I believe the data for this is at best weak.

Of much more general interest is the relationship between Cannabis and anxiety. There are hundreds of articles/blogs claiming that either Cannabis causes anxiety or that it helps anxiety. I believe this is primarily strain related and will address this further, but wanted to first comment that many, many medications I have prescribed in the past have been for anxiety. However, in a certain percentage of patients, these pharmaceuticals would at times increase anxiety. So, this is certainly not rare and should not be a reason to dismiss the patients for whom Cannabis works well for anxiety.

So, back to the strains. In general those patients, who become agitated, paranoid or even perhaps borderline psychotic, have been using sedating strains of Indica. These strains tend to worsen our ability to focus and this results in calmness and sleep for most of us. However, for some patients with anxiety, this loss of focus triggers a loss of connection to their environment and paranoia may creep in. On the other hand, low doses of more activating strains of Cannabis very rarely, if ever, cause these symptoms.

In my personal clinical experience, the patients who seem to become increasingly anxious from Indicas, do very well on Sativa strains.

AND

Sativa Strains:

Activating
Anti-Anxiety
INCREASED Focus!
Anti-Depressant
Increased Creativity
Treats Chronic Pain
INCREASED LEVELS OF SEROTONIN

Indica Strains:

Sedating
Relaxing
DECREASED Focus!
Muscle Relaxant
Treats Acut Pain
Increased Appetite
Decreased Nausea
INCREASED LEVELS OF DOPAMIN"

What you think about that?

very interesting!

Neurofibromatosis (NF2) and cannabis

My aunt developed neurofibromatosis (NF2) some time ago. She has had gamma ray treatment almost a year ago now on tumors in her brain and around her neck/ top of the spine. Sadly this treatment does not seem to have had a great deal of impact or improvment on her condition, especially regarding the pain and discomfort she experiences daily. This is made more difficult for her to endure due to the fact that she is alergic to morphine and has had problems with other medication given to her to help relieve her pain. I'm unsure of what she is taking right now for her pain relief but I do know that she is taking it at the highest possible dose and cannot find relief.

Whilst I knew about her illness I was unaware of her difficulties with her pain relief medication so I had not previously suggested cannabis to her. However hearing about this automatically led me to thinking about the potential for cannabis to help her. I do not think she has any previous experience with cannabis but from speaking to my mother it seems the topic has recently come up between them.

So why am I making this post? I'm starting this thread now in the hope that some of you here may have relevant experience with NF2 and cannabis. For instance I wonder if a cream or tincture applied directly to the areas where tumors are present might be a more efective application rather than her smoking, vaping or eating? I'm also looking for your words of encouragment not just from those suffering from NF2 but also those who like her are unable to use much of the prescribed pain relief without reactions or side effects.

Knowing the good community here at UK420 I hope that when I see her this weekend and talk to her about this subject I will have this thread along with other sites and videos to show her in order to help her make a more imformed decision. Whilst I consider myself knowledgable on many aspects of cannabis I am lucky enough to only use it recreationally and so feel my own experiences are of little use to her.

peace

Latest from NICE re Sativex

Heres the latest from N.I.C.E Regard Sativex..

Dear Peter,

Thank you for contacting the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Apologies for the delay – as promised in our telephone conversation, an additional copy of this has been sent in post.

Sativex was initially referred by the Department of Health to NICE for appraisal in May 2002. In November 2003, the manufacturers had still not obtained marketing approval (a process that is not connected to NICE, but rather the Medicines & Healthcare Technology Regulatory Agency (MHRA)) for the treatment, and the appraisal was suspended. The Department of Health requested that any further appraisal was delayed pending a decision regarding the review of our Clinical Guideline on Multiple Sclerosis (CG8). This can be found on page 6 of the CG8 Review Decision document in the paragraphs beneath the heading “Relationship to Other NICE Guidance”. The review decision document itself can be accessed through the following link:
http://www.nice.org....ownload&o=55083

In October 2011, following a period of consideration and evaluation, the decision was taken the conduct an update of CG8 (as detailed in the review decision document). Use of Sativex in connection with spasticity in Multiple Sclerosis will be included as part of this guidance. The process is still in the very early stages, with the first draft of the scope currently in preparation. Unfortunately I do not have an anticipated schedule to give you yet, but the progress of the update can be tracked through the following webpage:
http://www.nice.org....on=byID&o=13595

Sativex will not, therefore, be subjected to a NICE Technology Appraisal. Guidance on its use will form part of the updated Clinical Guideline for Multiple Sclerosis. In the absence of published NICE Guidance, any decision regarding the funding and prescription of a licensed treatment is the preserve of each individual Primary Care Trust (PCT).

As the guidance that will cover the use of Sativex will be a Clinical Guideline, it will not place a legal obligation on the NHS to fund and prescribe a treatment, and the decision will ultimately still remain one for each individual PCT. As NICE Clinical Guidelines are considered best practice, healthcare professionals are expected to take them into account, but they do not override the individual’s clinical judgment, nor do they place a legally binding requirement on a PCT to adhere to them.

More information about the nature of our Clinical Guidelines work can be found through the following link:
http://www.nice.org...._guidelines.jsp

I hope you find this information useful, I apologise again for the delay, and if you have any further queries please contact the NICE Enquiry Handling Team again.

Regards,

David

Right then, I need some suggestions for strains that will hopefully take the edge off some of the health problems I have.
ATM I have fairly bad tinnitus, anxiety, insomnia and an ed. Looking for something that will knock me out in the evening and awaken my appetite and hopefully enable me to forget about some of the causes of my anxiety.
Am I expecting too much ? :g:
I can do an indoor grow and I am planning to do a guerilla grow this year too, Has anyone tried mandalas' satori ?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
