If they’re in veg just top em innit. They got too big? They’ll recover in a couple of weeks ready to flower, ime.

Aye, top anything down to anywhere. Dont do it within a week before flowering though.

Nice one fellas.I'll get the scissors out then, they're only small but I though I had to do it before the 4th set and then only the top.

Will they still root out a pot or does that stall until they get over the assault ?

It might just hold them back a day or so bud. Sometimes they’ll just fly. I’ve had the odd one sulk but they’re a fairly hardy plant n can take some shit. (No hard feelings bud. This is the bar after the rugby game. Leave it on the pitch where it belongs)

I take nothing personal on here fella,we're adults. :hippy:

They're hardy fuckers and they'll not be needed for another 4-5wks (fingers crossed),I wish I had left them in the 5cm pots because the one that wasn't ready at the time is still in one and is loving it,just another lesson learnt and possibly forget knowing me.

That’s plenty of time for them to recover n knock a few tops out. I’d top em again if they were keen enough n thought I’d have 5 weeks to play with. I’ve only just recently started hacking at my plants. Too scared before. Thought I’d fuck em up. My plants take more shit than a sewage farm, what damage could a pair of scissors really do :) I find whenever I get to a bit on an impasse if I follow me nose Im generally okay like.

Hi mate

What's the score with this? What detriment will it cause?

Asking as I have a glue plant I've let go way too big and stretch is only gonna make her worse, so i was thinking of topping just before flower so she wouldnt recover the height shes put on

The apical growth has a hormone called Auxin. Its the hormone that forces the branches to follow the light. It is distributed evenly among the tallest branches. If you remove a branch (presumably the tallest one) you also remove a bunch of hormones which have to be reproduced and redistributed, that takes time and energy which you don't want your plant spending on the first days of bud-set. Prune but allow ateast a week for the plant to recover from the stress, then flip to flower. Getting used to a shorter time period is stress enough.

Topping can be done more that once, and it is a healthy practice when trying to train your plants for widest canopy in limited spaces. Avoid topping in flower.

LST and ScroG achieves the same result, but you need a few goes to understand how to properly.

@Dream Catcher nice 1, I've opted to super crop as I've ran out of cutting space. Will give her a couple days and then flip. Appreciate it

Recovery from stress depends on the kind of stress, to give an exact timeframe would be difficult. After whatever stress, make sure the plant is in rapid growth again before flipping :) after topping at LEAST a week, after crushing stems maybe 1 week is enough. If its just kinked then yeah, a couple days and youre fine.
Remember the Auxins, they are at the highest point, if you bend that point down they have to travel to the next highest point. By keeping all branches on one level the auxin hormone is distributed evenly across all branches thus making ALL branches a cola. After bending, the plant still has to redistribute hormones, hence why as a general rule we dont stress our plants a week before and a week after the switch.
Now others might tell you otherwise but this is my experience if i have any :D Good luck!

@Dream Catcher I'm with them every day at least once minimum for a good chunk, so I will keep an eye on it and see how she fares. Cheers for the comprehensive responses though, very helpful
