Pot of soil

Working out how much my set is costing me roughly

55 posts in this topic

@Pot of soil if yer anything like a lot of us you'll be looking at new kit with eyes firmly on the wattage from the wall, I've been on a little mission with fans the last 12 or so months and have gone from about 130w on just air movers and suckers to 51w and actually have a better environment to show for it....

.... Granted fancy e.c fans and upgrades etc wasn't cheap but if it brings the monthly outgoings down I'm happy, aside from professional level masturbation this is my only hobby so I don't mind too much, plus shiny new kit is always fun.

Similar experience here. I think we have got quite slack over the years with the amount of wattage we use. I'm slowly looking at everything and seeing how I can make it more effective for less. Big fan of the TLEDs at the moment. 26Ws of power and they do a blinding job at keeping cuttings/smaller mothers going. I'll be changing my veg room over soon from a single 315W CMH to 2x 26W TLEDs and then running a 300W LED at around 200W power. Will be able to run that light closer to the plants as it'll have a smaller area to cover in future, might even be able to dim it back a bit more. Either way, it'll be using less watts over all and be more effective, so win win.

Hello mate you read me like a book.  EC fans are deffo something I need to into but like you say its the cost of upgrading everyrhing needed, which will be fans and a controller possibly a balancer  but going on the fact you upgraded and went from 130w consumotion to 51w is a massive  eyeopener and a nice amount of watts saved.

I think all consumers of electrical products are going to be more aware of the wattage of things soon so it will be interesting to see how manafactures of elecrical equiptment come up with.

It to is my only hobby well that and carp fishjng but they kind of go hand in hand.

Most of your useage isn’t coming from your grow. lay off the tumble drier and the 4 hour electric showers or whatever you’re doing.

Also electric companies don’t care about what you’re doing as long as you pay. In fact the more you use the better. High energy use is easily explained. 700’quid is not a cannabis farm at current prices. If you had a cannabis farm you’d be stealing the electricity because you’d be using tens of thousands a month otherwise. A cannabis farm has similar electricity usage to a medium sized workshop.

The monthly bill for the house at the minute is coming in at about £700.

i have a one bed flat, my energy costs are around £900 (e2a, this is a quarter) but i have two tents on the go, three sometimes, so anything up to 1200 watts of lights alone lol

i once had the energy company withhold my bill because they said it was unusually high, it was £1500 for 5 months, i was shitting it talking to the lady on the phone, i told her i was running under floor heating throughout the flat, which was true, but i had two tents on the go too, and no double glazing lol

just chill, i bet the cunt on the phone says that to all high energy users, but tbh if i had a house to heat/light etc and a grow in a shed i'd be well chuffed with £700

bills are going up, it's hard and sad times as they are fucking robbing us

I use the following.

300w LED for 18hours dimmed to 50% now

80w Tubular 24 hours

6” fan (55w) 24 hours

12” oscillating fan (40w) 24hours

2 pumps 1 for 1min a day and the other 24 hours a day

220w dehumidifier on for 6 hours a day in a lung room to help with moisture build up

my average monthly increase from running all this is about £70 a month.

my monthly DD for a 2 bed terrace house over the year right now equates to almost £300 a month E&G

that’s the grow, 2 young boys playing games most of the time and a mrs that’s a housewife so home all day.

we don’t scrimp on heating or electric and use what we need to when we need to.

Ive currently got over £500 in credit with my supplier too.

im running 650 watts in my flowering chamber + 15 watts over the aero cloner + 15 watts over mum`s so 700 watts total...i pay 34p per killowatt unit so my grow alone cost daily as the cloner is never switched off or the mum cab, im going in lean at 25p per hr .... so in veg its ruffly 18 x 25p = £4.80 daily and thats under estimated as theres the standing charge to.   im in at £33.80  minimum  per calender week.    now thats what i call :chef:

Does that include your household usage the £33.80? Do you consume much with other appliances would you say?

@Pot of soil I grow in a shed as well, if you want to save some cash! Bin all the heaters and just stick the tent extraction on an Inkbird temperature controller set at 28c (or whatever you want the temp at), and then just run a separate extraction fan outside the tent during flower to vent the smell from the rest of the shed. This saves a shit load of cash by not running any heating apart from the lights. It also means you can run the humidifier on a lower setting as its not being sucked straight out the tent.

This is my second year doing this and it does save money, I also bought a CO2 monitor and the reading actually went up, but I do grow in big organic beds so this may have an impact.

You will also need to insulate the tent to be able to hold the temp high this way but it’ll still save you money

Best

You lot are alll top foum memebers.  What a  sight to see everyone pulling in the same direction aswering a new members question.  Youve all chipped in with help on how to do the equation/maths side of things to roughly work things out and then gone on to give me some things to think about doing to run more efficiently with any tips or tricks you may have had left or me to think about as well.

Literally couldnt ask for more then that so thanks alot everyone, really sound replys from you all.  I Wasnt expecting so much input.
