Working out how much my set is costing me roughly

55 posts in this topic

Morning fellow smokers, wow this junp in electirical costs has got the old electricity company making unerving/funny comments on the phone. The monthly bill for the house at the minute is coming in at about £700.

The person who own the house allows me to grow in the shed but the other day they rang up the electeicity supplier to chase one of those smart meter display things that displays you current ussage etc. Yes we have a smart meter and until it brok we had this little display screen thing thay would say your daily ussage etc

On the phone to the electricity company and a Long story short  after going through there costs and what electirical items they have, and warning them that in april next year what is costing 700 will be 80 % more expensive so 700 + 80% = 1260 for the exact same amount of electricity he came out with

"Its as if youve got a cannabis farm on"

They said they brished it off with a certinly not but we will see if anyone comes kocking as a result.

Not a nice feeling and not a great comment from the electeicity company but as someone said to me they are not daft and they can probably see a graph showing the spikes when the lights and setup come on.

Im not to worried as at the end of the day until they make alcahol illegal im not gonna worry to much about it as thats my drink after a long days work.

You cant have half the population being allowed to unwind with a drink and then make it illegal for the others who preffer it to unwind with a sliff.  Well thata how i see it in my head and im sure it would be a  rude awaking if i was to go infront of a judge woth that attitude!

What I was wondering was how do you work out raoughly what it is you are using a day.

I know my pence per kwh is 0.34 so 34p

Is it simply a case of adding up all the watts

Eg 315 cmh, 240 led, 2x 120 w tube heaters

So that would be

315 w

240w

120w

120w

= 795 w

X 0.34  = 270.30

Im running alot more stuff

Hunidifiers

Meter long heat mats

6 inch rvks

5 inch rvk

Fan speed controllers

Water butt heaters

Water butt punps

Its scary really but im gonna look at seeing if i can put the pump in the water butt on a timer instead of on 24/7 and get the externaly housed water butt with a hearer in it a water butt jacket to try and help it need to turn on less.

I just wanted to roughly work out what my setup is costing to see if I can save any money but I just need to know what formula you guys are using to do it.

I dont need it precise just roughly and id sooner over compensate.

A long winded first post but if anyone can assist that would be much appreciated

Cheers

P.s im not sure why i seem to have a pic of one of Gszz is it, pant as my pic.  I had a browse about yesterday and remeber seeing that pic from his post but how the bloddy hell has it ended up as my avitar

Watts used multiplied by time on.

So 500W running for a day = 12 Kilowatt hours, £4.32 at 36p per KWh.

Hi mate thanks for dropping in.

Ive got the calulator out trying to work out what you have done there but I cant get your answer.

500w x 24 = 12000 kwh

1200 x 0.36 = £4320

What am  I doing wrong mate

Straight up mate all ive got is mum room with a 250 hps and flower room with a 315 cmh and a couple of 240led boards but they are dimmed to 30 percent.

Obviously the runnung of the house has costs and that £700 is for the while house grow included.

Im just trying to work out how much of that £700 bill will be me and my tents thats all bud

I run alot of other stuff 4 meter ling heat mats 2 6 inch fans 2 five inh fans about 10 tube heaters, water heater for water tank etc

I think its 795W per hour, so on them figures it would be about £2.70 an hour

X that by the number of hours (say 18 per 24hrs period) - £48.60 per day

+ the rest of your equipment if you can also work out their wattages

something like that bro

edit: think thats wrong seems high not sure what im doing here...

ITS 0.795 X 0.34 = 0.27 (pence, per hour) X 18 = 4.86 per day bro & I think thats correct... @Pot of soil

1000 watts for one hour is one unit. (34p)

so 795w is

0.795kw x 24hrs x 30days x 0.34£

add up ALL your growing wattage though, and what hours each one is on for.

Take a look at the plug in watt meters.

For me it's the heating that really hurts, I run a modest grow imo. A 630w led for 12 hours costs me £2.79 a day and my 315cmh in veg costs me £2.09 for 18 hours. It's all the other shit that adds up.

I can't even get a pint down the pub for under 3 quid so I think it's worth it still.

It's a tricky calculation because of the timings. We don't use a consistent amount of power for the whole day. We may be running a veg light for 18 hours, a flower light (or two) for 12 hours and then fans for 24 hours.

But let's try to simplify it a bit, let's say we are running a 1000W setup (lights+fans, heaters, whatever) and we just run it for 12 hours a day (we'll forget we need to run the fans/heaters for longer).

so we are using 1000W of power, or 1kWh, so that's 34p/hour. We run it 12 hours a day, so that's £4.08/day. For a 30 day month, that's £122.4.

Like I said, that's simplified the actual cost a lot as we haven't included the fans running for the other 12 hours etc, but let's say the fans/heaters are 100W of that power, so to run them for another 12 hours would be £12.24/month extra.

I think this is always in the back of all our minds.

I just got the calculator out (like an actual Casio jobby) , my whole setup (1.2m² and two 60cm² spaces) comes in at 835w Inc a 480w led and 240w heater, I'm looking at around £150pcm in veg and a shade over £110pcm for flowering (the two small spaces are only ever on 18/6)

Thanks for all your help fellow smokers, really really appreciate all of you trying to help me work it out.  All of you have been a massive alhelp and between all of you I think you have managed to explain it to me well enough to go and have a go at working it out.

Ive made some intial steps to drop back on consumption like turning my humidifiers off as they were on all the time and  only running an extraction fan using the intake now as a passive.

Ive got pre arranged plans today but tommorrow im going to add everything up and see what its drawing and what its costing.

Massive pat on the back to all of you who helped me out there.  Mustard
