A cannabis user led police on a 50mph chase in Harehills after officers tried to pull him over while he had the drug in his car.

Leeds Crown Court was shown footage of pedestrians looking 'bewildered' as Asad Mahmood drove at speed through streets that had cars parked on either side.

The 27-year-old did not have a driving licence and had two passengers in the car, the court was told.

Prosecutor David Ward officers in a marked vehicle decided to pull a Seat Leon over after seeing it make two left turns in quick succession near Ashley Road at around 4.30pm on April 25 this year.

He said Mahmood drove at up to 50mph in a congested area and also drove at 40mph in a 20mph zone.

The defendant ran a red light and drove through a junction without looking.

He stopped the car on Dorsett Terrace where a taxi was blocking the road.

The defendant was arrested and a small amount of cannabis was found in the driver's door of the car.

Mahmood made no comment in his police interview.

Mahmood, of St Wilfrid's Garth, Harehills, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

He has no previous convictions.

Ben Thomas, mitigating, said his client's partner, a mother-of-four, suffers from anxiety and depression on relies on him on a daily basis.

Mr Thomas said the couple have a newborn baby together and he is the family's main source of income.

Mahmood was handed six months in prison, suspended for two years, with a requirement to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

He was also disqualified from driving for a year.

Sentencing, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC described the incident as 'short-lived but extremely dangerous', adding: "It is a miracle that nobody was seriously injured or worse."

Cunts picking on another cunt.  Since when has making two left turns in succession been enough suspicion to pull someone over.
