Flushing

I want to get peoples opinions on the final flush.

 

Do people flush or not? And if so how do you flush? Do you use flushing agents such as flawless finish or final phase?

 

There are many methods and opinions and I want to hear them all.

I always flush, but as to how long for depends on what nutrients have been feed during the grow. Organic doesn’t need flushing, I personally still flush for at least a week here. With synthetic nutes, I flush for at least two.

Again it also depends on whether grown in soil or hydro. I’m a soil only grower so won’t comment on the hydro side of things.

 

To be honest, I actually dislike the term “flushing” as this suggests flooding excess water through the substrate, which in my opinion, is something that should only be done in a case of extreme overfeeding. Feeding your plant plain water however much they need, no more, as and when required during the last few weeks pre-harvest is all it takes. I know some who use boosts or other supplements during this stage with good results but not something I have personally tried.

Ive never used flushing agents, so can’t really comment on them. But from what I understand about the way soil works, it is near impossible to leach nutrients from the plant. Maybe the soil, but that’s nothing a good plain feeding for a few weeks doesn’t do. By not feeding when you water, you are allowing the plant to use the remaining nutes in the substrate. A perfect example of this is a nutrient deficiency.
