what does auto grow time mean?

Im not exactly new but ive also had a long time off. I am completely new to autos though.

Basically its important to me to know exactly how long an auto takes from planting to harvesting, and I'm seeing a lot of confusing terms.

my question is...

How do i know how long autos take, a strain guide might say "flowering 8-9 weeks", or they might say "full life cycle 8-9 weeks" or "blooming stage 55 days" and so on, etc etc etc. I'm confused because they mention flowering or blooming does that mean, for example, a plant might VEG for how ever long, and then, BLOOM for "55 days". How long is veg, How long is bloom with autos, how long is ALL of it?

How do i find out how long it takes to PLANT it and HARVEST it?

Im sorry if im not making sense, I'm just confused by the difference in terminology I've seen while browsing online.

Hi and welcome back.

Don't think this is the right place for questions but anyway I'm not an auto expert by any means but grown my fair share and in my experience autos will start to show preflowers about the 3 week stage (quickest I've seen is 16 days using seeds from sweet seeds) then its the usual 7,8 or 9 flowering weeks.

My last run was hubbabubbasmelloscope and it was done by 95 days in total from germination to harvest with an advertised 63 day flower period which was accurate leaving 32 days from germination to commencing actual flowering :stoned:

Hey there and welcome back

No expert but from everything I've seen usually add a week or 2 onto the time seed banks give u for the strain I got lucky with my first grow they all finished a few days over there 8-9week time scale a couple of the plants could of went easy a week without being to many amber trichomes

There are too many variables to know exactly how long a plant will take reach the optimal time to harvest. Forget it.

Sellers and advertisers give you the lowest possible number, is grown in absolutely perfect and sterile conditions I find hard to believe any of us home growers can replicate.

Autos?   100 days is a safeish bet.

I’ve only done autos once. Was seedsmans U.K. cheese autos. Seed to finish was roughly 80 days, started flowering week 3 roughly. Had 9 plants and got 18oz from a 600w hps and put a 300w led in aswell last 3 weeks.

Was pretty impressed especially as it was my first grow but because I don’t have a lot of height, I only do female photo seeds now so I can flip them to 12/12 at the right height and don’t have to worry about them growing into the light.

Nope, it is confusing.

My three auto grows (two different strains) have gone 90, 90 and 91 days seed to chop. If one had decided to take a hundred days I would just have had to suck it up though. Once they are in you just have to wait, whatever the strain guide says.

I've never grown autos indoors but outside, in my experience, the veg period can vary between 6 and 10 weeks but when they do start flowering I would normally expect to harvest after about a further 8 weeks.

I only grow outdoors and my experience is that no two plants will do the exact same thing as way way too many variables.

Even the same strain , same packet , same methodology ...... all tend to be within weeks of each other.      Its just way too hard to call.

I generally ignore the breeders predicted timescales and all you can do is let the plant do its thing :)   Its done when its done.

@fredman007 I have grown a lot of autos from varying breeders and I’m not familiar with your issue as most sites state the full life cycle I.e from germination to harvest? There are always variables such as environment, lighting etc that will alter the time taken and each seed will be slightly different too. That said take a look at Dinafem’s very comprehensive auto selection, they even have a wide range of high CBD autos, I have found that they are ready when they say time after time. Usually 70 days from seed to harvest. They are a site sponsor here with a very popular sub forum that is run by a very friendly fella called @Dinafem-Mark who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Another site sponsor with a great reputation is Sweet Seeds and I have grown alot of their autos too with great results, hell they gave me €3500 and took me and the missus to Amsterdam for the weekend and treated me like royalty bless them :yinyang: @Sweet Seeds-tommy or @Sweet Seeds Apolo or @Sweet Seeds -Jaypp are the support guys who I’m sure again will be happy to answer any queries you may have

Best of luck growing your autos:oldtoker:

Sativa and Indica pure strains are photoperiod. There is a sub species of plant called ruderalis, which adapted to colder climates by flowering by time rather than light and also grew in poor soil, hence they don't need lot's of nutes. Ruderalis actually means 'rubble' in latin I think. Autos have the flowering genetics of ruderalis with cross breeding with indica/sativa strains. I think that's right, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :smokin:

Hi @Fragg For me it is a pleasure to know that you were very comfortable with the treatment of my colleagues.  :v:

Guys, about autoflowering strains:

The data indicated for autoflowering strains are the data from germination to harvest. Approximately all of them are harvested in about 3 months. That's why they are commonly known in some places as '3-month-old strains'. But depending on the strain, the time can vary by a few weeks.

The vegetative period of the autoflowering strains is about 4 weeks.

I would also like to indicate, that the data are indicative. It is necessary to know that they are living beings, and the weather can vary for different reasons: genetic reasons, climate, etc.

Sweet smokes!

PD: I would like to be able to give more information or continue the conversation, but I am outside my subforum and I am not allowed to participate outside our subforum.

Sweet aren't giving me E3500 for saying this but I'm currently growing a Jack47XL which despite hiccups in both  feeding and watering is at exactly the same stage of maturity for it's age as the last 2 I grew. Jack47XL is claimed to take 63 days and that's exactly how long those 2 took, optimum ripeness and chopped on the 63rd day.:yep:

I've not grown many autos but most have finished pretty close to the breeders' claimed lifespan.

FWIW I did some Dinafem Auto Cookies that went 74 days from first sprouting to being chopped and also some Sweet Seeds Creme Caramel Autos that were done in 68 days.  Decent bud, decent yields.
