In veg absolutely. You need a carbon filter to get rid of the smell from the exhaust.

Absolutely true, I have a heater for lights off which keeps the swing minimal. What would you suggest for humidity?

Let the fans deal with it for you.  You're going to go mad trying to get the levels correct, and you'll end up spending more than you need.  Personally, I don't worry too much about humidity.  The right amount of moving and extracted air is good enough IMO.

This was my thinking when I did my first few and all times humidity was always a problem that's why I was looking to invest in some kit for this cycle

Want to run a humidifier+dehumidifier in my tent where each activates only when needed using inkbird controller, my goal is to maintain RH 75%-85%. 

Q's:

1. If I were to use humidifier/dehumidifier where would be the best place to install them? Close to intake maybe?

2. Is it pointless to run these when your extracting air 24/7? 

3. Is there a way to calculate humidifier size?

 

P.S. I KNOW HIGH RH AND CARBON FILTER DOESN'T MIX PLEASE LEAVE THAT TO ME

Formula I've come across:

Maximum amount of water you will ever give your plants(probably flush period) x the amount of plants. 

Problem is how the heck would could I possibly calculate how much water I'll be giving my plants?

You'll know once you've done a grow or 2.

Different methods and environments will make for different water use. 

As an example in nft I peak around 7l per plant per day.

There is no need to do this.

 

Your going to spend a fair bit of money on the Humidifier and dehumidifier, you could buy a pair of EC fans and a top of the range environment controller? These would serve you much better. 

 

The newish G.A.S controller had RH probes, and it will up or down the fans to suit the RH levels you program.

 

You go and have RH levels like that during bloom your next big topic will be "Can I get rid of Bud Rot"

Faster growth as long as you keep on top of ventilation

I just got off the phone to hydro shop they advised i get a small humidifier around 8L then said I should try fix night RH with fans if it becomes extreme THEN dehumidy. I'm happy he's confirmed my theory higher temps&humidity=healthier plants as long as ventilation is on top! so my next question would actually be "what's the most efficient way I can maximise air movement"

I'm not trying to slate of hydro shops, but you wouldn't be the first person to walk out of a hydro shop with £££' worth of stuff you just need.

 

If the hydro shop is telling you that you NEED a dehumidifier / humidifier to grow then why do so many of us grow perfect Cannabis without them?

Yeah I completely hear that man that is usually is the case the way this shop comes across imo it wasnt to sell me anything. They told me to get a 5l-8l humidifier instead of the 20l I had in mind and told me to forget the dehumidifier all together, I don't know that's why I've come here for help.  

Are they really that unnecessary? How would I achieve my target RH?

I can say for sure how well they work, or if they do they job. But I can say that by spring this year I will have in my new 3x3m Budbox pro.

 

For sure you want to control humidity, but when growing you use such high quality extraction systems that with the right controller you should be able to dial the environment in. 

 

With these new newer controllers you can setup your RH, night temps, day temps all on one unit. The reason I like this one is because it even controls your grow room heater. 

 

If you have an oversized extractor fan and turn it down not only do you make your grow more quiet and stealthy you have that extra whoosh when your temps or RH get to high / low etc.

 

Even equipment like this for most is over the top, but if really are set on having the perfect environment I'd spend the money where it matters. I've tried the dehumidifier's when I was in the loft during winter some years back. Not only do they not work as well as you need, you can just leave them, seeing as your extraction is running all day every day you may as well use that to your advantage and make the most of it.
