I like autos. Good for garage growing in winter. Start them off right, they grow like the clappers. Check some of @teehee grows, you would never believe they were autos!

I finished a run of autos in early July, after several years of photo-only grows. They have indeed improved vastly, pity I had to move and don't have the space any more. Favourite was Jack47 XL from Sweet, high yield of tasty strong weed, supposed to be ready at 56 days and actually was optimally ripe at exactly 56 days.

Like Openairbud says if you grow them in winter you can avoid the heat issues you might get with lights only on for 12/12.

Thanks @Openairbud for that!!

This is a tricky discussion, but I would have to say that a lot of this is strain specific.

I've grown some Autos that have stunned a lot of seasoned Photoperiod growers. Dutch Passion's 'Night Queen' ALWAYS impresses not only with potency but also taste.

I know of growers who have grown the Photo and Auto versions, and there was no difference.... just tasty knockout gear.

Low yields? 18 ounces of Blue Amnesia anyone?

large.5b9d36f55c912_day102BA1.JPG

The gear was delicious.... fruity and petrrolly

large.5b700edcec2b8_day74BA1.JPG

On the other hand, I've grown some disappointing Autos too.  Cerainly the older strains like the DP Blueberry, I have no care for.

My last grow was photoperiod, a succesful Dinafem grow, and I wasn't able to notice any difference in my stone or quantity of end product.

I've been caning it since the early 80's been up the Dam countless times, and all round the world sampling the bud on offer, and the Autos I grow are generally tastier and stronger than anything I've bought in the past.

It stands to reason that there are some amazing photoperiod strains out there, people have gone out of their way to select the best phenos, and have nurtured fabled motherplants over the years.

UK420 has some sensational specialist hobby growers, and I can guarantee that their end product is more superior to the Autos currently available.

It's like comparing a Bugatti Veyron to a Ferrari.... both are top quality, but the Ferrari pales in compariosn to the Bugatti.

I agree, Autos were crap back in the day.... and there's still plently of them still out there...... low yields, poor taste and low strength, but some breeders have also gone out of their way to select quality Photos and have bred them into Automatics.

These days, the range of Autos available is huge, but nothing like the available range of photoperiods, but I reckon for the average Photo grower, you'd not notice any difference if you grew a good Auto.

Ah the good ol' hay smell and taste.

Guess it's hard to breed that out!
Good luck with your grow! What kind of LED are you using?

Got to say the the tastless auto's i had, smelt really good while growing, it was the taste of the smoke that disappointed. I grew 3 of the same kind in the same room at the same time and one was the nicest autos and one of the nicest smokes i have ever had. The other two tasted shite, well tasted more like hay.

Got a 140w ara-20 from diyleduk in the veg room.

Hope your grow goes well.

When you say "It didn't" do you mean it didn't handle the smell?

Here's an extract from a smoke report I did for it....

Opening the jars releases a pungent berry smell with a deeper petrol note as well. The buds are really sticky, breaking them up leaves a lovely coating on your fingers that smells like that soft Nepalese hash. The ground bud smells even stronger. The first joint I rolled of this was making me shake with anticipation!
Once lit, the taste was just as expected, really fruity blueberry on the first pull, then you get a strong hashy flavour coming through after a couple more tokes. The overall smoke is very smooth and makes the mouth tingle. As you continue smoking, you get a complex range of tastes, sometimes chocolate minty, a bit petrolly, but overwhelmingly blueberry and hash though.

I'm growing another one as we speak, but somehow, the Auto seed I planted, turned out to be a photoperiod. The buds give off the same smell I had on that Auto, so I can't wait to see what the end result's like.

Autos have definitely come on in the last few years. Using a 1000 Watts I'm regularly getting over a gpw in coco. Picture in my gallery of a Night Queen auto that was 520g dried and a really strong smoke.

What kind of temps and rh did you get?

What size space was it and were you using some sort of automatic drip system?

Hope you don't mind me asking.

Temps peaked at around 35c in the uk heatwave, RH was around 60 even with a dehumidifier running which did nothing to help the temps, lost most of the main cola to some brown mould but still pulled over 14 ounce and enough fluff to make a lot of edibles so was well happy, originally was a Wilma dripper system but I don’t recycle the feed just one pass through the coco pebble mix and catch it and waste it, means no constantly correcting ph or cleaning out the reservoir, seems to work for me and I have two gorilla glue girls on the same system now and their going berserk this week and stretching on week three.

The four inch system was from my first smaller tent and was the last thing I upgraded which is now six, hope that helps mate :smokin:
