Compost and Coco advice

So I've seen on a few seed shops they recommend that when growing in compost a mixture of 30% Coco is recommended.

I'm going to try this on my next grow... As I've only ever grown with compost/perlite can I carry on as I have been (occasionally using homemade feeds of comfrey/nettles and then pk13/14 for flowering) or will I need to buy other feeds/nutrients as well?

Any hints/tips or shared experiences on this matter much appreciated. :yep:

Cheers.

That might be a good idea with heavy conventional composts like John Innes but weed composts have a much less dense structure anyway, due in part to coco.

More coco will mean less nutes by volume so you might need to use grow feed too.

Any cheap feeds anyone uses/recommends for this type of grow?

You could use fishmix all the way through.

Personally I had trouble with homemade coco/compost mixes over about 10% coco, seems like the coco leaches minerals from the compost, and they can make the compost hold too much water. As mentioned there are plenty mixes with it already in though, and tropic batmix (growells own coco-based compost) was really good stuff so it's definitely possible. Think canna terra has come coco in it too but not sure how much..

Hi guys, just an update on this thread, I've just started a grow with 80% allmix and 20% biobizz coco, I mixed everything together and left it for a couple of weeks before using, I'm a couple of weeks in and so far so good, I'll let you know how we're doing as we go if anybody's interested.

Iv tried to mix both compost and coco in the past but coco has to absorb nutrients before it releases it back into the root zone so can cause nutrient issues in the first few weeks,  my way around this was to pre-charge the coco with nutrients and calmag before adding to the compost although to be honest I would just go straight coco as I like to control when the plants receive their nutrients, I saw no benefits to mixing both
