GRAHAM GUSSIN'S ARTWORKS, PAINTED WITH HOME-MADE CANNABIS PAINT

Hi

GRAHAM GUSSIN'S ARTWORKS, PAINTED WITH HOME-MADE CANNABIS PAINT

Painter Graham Gussin’s latest show is definitely high art ... after he made his own paint from cannabis.

The 57-year-old, below, who teaches at Slade School of Fine Art, bought the drug in “small quantities” on the streets of south London before grinding down the cannabis resin and mixing it with linseed oil.

The resulting exhibition, The Mary Jane Paintings, until July 14 at Handel Street Projects gallery in Florence Street, Islington, includes five drawings and 10 oil paintings done over a decade. Gussin, who has work in the Tate Collection, asked for legal advice and one canvas passed a drug test to ensure that  whoever bought it would not be able to retrieve cannabis from the paint.

Dutch artist Diddo made a sculpture in 2013 from cocaine and artist Chemical X has created mosaics from ecstasy tablets.

The Mary Jane Paintings is at Handel Street Projects until July 14, handelstreetprojects.com
