@Cambium, cheers mate, yeah, it's a lovely piece of wood. I've another two planks I've not worked on yet, I'm looking forward to seeing how they come up. :) I carried it about 500 yards out of a wood on my shoulder last winter, I was bollocksed by the time I got back to the van but it was worth it! :yep:

I love a bit of wood work. Blacksmithing too, but it's been a while. I'll see if i've i've got any pic's about.

Hope you are injury free, and life is good.

Nice one,

Morning mate,

not been fishing much to be honest. The weather has been grim here for two months straight.

Mackeral have come in though, and the bass are still at our mark :yep:

All good though.

I'm now a batchelor again, lording it up in my new house (rattling around more like, ha). No excuse to not be fishing more!!

I'll look for those pic's.

I know you're probably not a TV man (same here), but did you ever see the fairly recent 'Grand Design's' in Wales, with Simon Dale and his family? Google him up if you don't know him. his first hobbit house was lush, his latest one is epic! See what he can buid with a chainsaw and some help from people like me :wassnnme:

He's a bit of a genius. Amazing designer, engineer, forestry worker, good carpenter and blacksmith, and the loveliest guy you could ever know.

He taught me lots, and inspired me loads.

Nice one,

Tigs :guitar:

Here's my shot at bookmatching but I Balls up by having one section the wrong way round but the detail wasn't visible till the very end when it was varnished.

Lovely stuff @stu sleeper 20vt and @Happy Hippy:yep:

Here's my work in progress.....I spent about four hours in the shed today, cut it in half and started sanding. Jesus, that Oak is hard, it's painstaking sanding work.

It's not far off, i need to finish the top and bottom, get the sawdust out of the splits and wax and polish it.

There's a few bits I'm not happy with, the odd ding and saw split.

My philosophy is you can't have a natural imperfection, if nature did it it's part of the character of the piece, if it's man made I'd prefer it gone, so I need to try and sort those as best I can.

A couple of pics with the other piece as a comparison.

@tigseyjnr, aww mate, that's all stunning work. :yep:

I really like those copper etchings. :)

My girlfriend has just demanded I make a picture frame similar to yours.....lol

Strangely enough I've not really got into chainsaw carving yet. I've seen some of the work at the world championships at the APF forestry show over the years, amazing stuff....:)

I can cobble together an ok mushroom but that's about it! lol

I'll have a look for the grand designs episode, I had a small part in a house that was featured years ago funny enough, the timber from the trees we felled on the plot was used in the construction of the house.  :yep:
