Photosynthesis on leaf bottoms.

Hey all. HUGH, PUGH,BARNEY,CUTHBERT,DIBBLE and GRUBB are now 10 days old. Has anyone tried placing the reflective film over the top of the pots? Covering the soil and reflecting the light back UP through the canopy? Will that aid Photosynthesis, or just confuse and disorientate them? Tried googling it.... And how to spell disorientate.

Plants have hormones in them called auxins that can sense moisture, gravity, light, etc, why fuck around with what it has as a plant evolved to expect? same goes for seeds on plates

@@HoneyBadger Plants don't photosynthesize from the bottom of the leaf, only the top, so there would be no advantage gained from this process.

Not strictly true.... Spidermites are killed by uvc light I read somewhere which is apparently why you only ever find them under leaves. So reflecting uv-c light to the underside of the plants could help with pest control but as said will not directly aid growth.

As that old Chinese fella said... 'if you know your enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles'

don't expose yourself purposly to uv-c though it will give you cancer. Only to be used in small doses on plants with the tent closed and you on the outside.

Thanks Chaps. I did a fair bit of research and it turns out that the waves cancel each other out, so bottom reflecting would appear to have a negative effect.

Next idea soon.... How do I know if my Boys are growing as y hey should? They are 13 DAYS OLD. Can I post pics and ask advice? It's my first grow and I have no clue, just reading and learnin..

If they are boys, then bin them :lookaround:

If you want to know if your girls are doing well, then they should be a lush green with no yellowing or spots on the leaves or purple stems. Check out a few grow diaries and compare your plants. If the leaves are starting to curl, droop or yellow then you'll have problems, if not you're probably good. Apart from heat/light issues, most of the problems start on the lower leaves, so keep an eye on them. And don't be afraid to trim and remove lots of lower leaves to encourage growth on the top of the plant!
