KODI - Found an awesome way to watch anything online!

Hey guys, a friend showed me this new program called KODI, which you can use to watch everything on TV (even sky sports etc.) and it streams virtually every movie and tv show.

This program and the add-ons are completely freeware so please don't consider this spam, just wanted to show you guys a good way to watch stuff since a lot of the torrent websites in the UK seems to be blocked for me now.

All you need to do is download the KODI player from here: http://kodi.tv

Then you need to install the two add-ons: VdubTV25 (for streaming live TV) and Genesis (for streaming TV shows and movies)

You do this inside the KODI program by linking it to an online source, it's a little tricky at first but so worth it!

VdubTV25 tutorial: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-vdubt25-add-on-kodi-xbmc/

Genesis tutorial: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-manually-install-gotv-for-xbmc/

Is anyone else using this? It's so awesome, it has everything that's on netflix and amazon prime, works 99% of the time and you can watch live TV! I haven't even downloaded anything on torrent since, either!

Yes I use the same but I have to use VPN since my area's ISP is very strict I have downloaded the vpn from https://www.kodivpn.co though the speed is a little slower but you have to have it.

For those in the UK and EU, I hope you realise that "streaming" via Kodi, provided you do NOT P2P via AceStream, Plexus, etc, has been declared to be 100% LEGAL by the European Court of Justice as you are neither uploading nor saving a permanent copy of whatever you watch. So use the Genesis Reborn addon and watch what you want to your heart's content, for you are doing nothing illegal in any way and that gives you a mighty big stick to whack your ISP on the head with if they decide to interfere with your perfectly legal use of the internet.

As an aside, for Win10 users with lower spec PC's, if you encounter "stuttering" and "jerky" streams, especially 1080p or higher, then either wipe the pc and install Linux or make it a Linux/Windows dual boot so you can use Kodi under Linux. I did that yesterday, I used Linux Mint but you choose what you wish, and these problems have completely vanished, everything runs as smoothly as a good Speyside single malt. You won't regret the 30-60 minutes, including creating a bootable USB stick (use Rufus for that, links are usually found with the install instructions online), you'll spend doing this.

You still need a tv licence though presumably to watch live tv streams on it legally?

That's an area that's greyer than John Major, and would be unenforceable anyway as they would struggle to actually prove that you were watching live TV at a specific time since there would be absolutely no logs on anything such as iPlayer saying that your computer was being used to watch anything broadcast "live".

Technically I believe the answer is "Yes, you would", but good luck to anyone trying to prove it.

For those using Kodi Krypton on Linux Mint Sylvia, you may be suffering random crashes to desktop for no apparent reason. The issue is NOT Kodi but is Mint itself, specifically the python cryptography, so follow the instructions below to solve the problem.

Open a command prompt window and enter the following

wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/299484105/python-cryptography_1.7.1-2_amd64.deb
wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/292839640/python-openssl_16.2.0-1_all.deb
sudo apt install ~/python-cryptography_1.7.1-2_amd64.deb ~/python-openssl_16.2.0-1_all.deb

I see no reason this would not work on other Debian based versions of Linux, and I now have no issues with Kodi crashing using Linux whatsoever.

For the mods. I cannot make the forum show the first two commands above as anything other than links. This is NOT spam or anything such like, this is the forum software deciding that what has been pasted as plain text is a hyperlink and I can do nothing about it.

If anyone is using Kodi, then I advise moving to the Placenta addon as it provides more sources than either Uranus or Neptune Rising.

As things change I'll do my best to update this for those who are interested.
