Psychosis Cuttings

58 posts in this topic

Hi guys, im new round here and need some advice. Ive just been given 5 Psychosis Cuttings from a friend. Ive currently got them on my windowsill just because I haven't got a propagator or my light/tent setup yet.

I think that all 5 have rooted, so what's my next plan of action? I know they need to go into bigger pots soon, but I was going to wait until I could see visible roots through the drainage holes.

Furthermore how often should I water? Just when It seems dry?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the boards mate

Cuttings I find usually take around 10 to 14 days to root (using plugs or 3 inch pots) I don't take the lid of the prop until at least 10 days though. What I do then is have a look at the roots and if they need potting up I do so into my next size pots, 2 weeks after they usually have rooted through those then into my finals.

Using a windowsill is fine but as we are now into the end of July I'd start thinking about getting them under some lights soon.

With regards to watering, a good wet/dry cycle is best (I know now when they need it by simply lifting the pot and 'feeling' the weight, if it's light they need it basically).

Good luck fella! (heard about Psychosis being quite the smoke too ;) )

Cheers for your reply man it's much appreciated :)

OK so I've been given them to be under the promise that they're rooted, however I can't visibly see any of the root system yet, even in the one he gave me that isn't in a pot (currently just sitting in a jiffy). So presumably they are just in need a few more days to root?

The fact it's late July has been my only worry. Been looking left right and centre for a friend with a spare light and I've managed to sort a desk lamp that apparently has a cool white spectrum Cfl bulb and a 250 hps and reflector . So here's another question. Would you suggest using the desk lamp to start or just go with the 250 and just put it higher up? I don't know the wattage of the desk lamp atm but obviously it won't be a high wattage.

Sorry to be such a noob, I just want to have a nice grow on the go. And yes mate it's a beautiful smoke. Its the knit reason I tool the cuttings ;)

Hi Matey.

I'd go straight with the 250cfl. You don't have to have it too high, the cuts will be fine with a 6 inch gap.

Have a look on here for some grow guides, you'll find them helpful.

Good luck with your first foray into growing and don't be put off if everything doesn't go fully to plan -there's always next time. Good strain Psychosis - I've done a couple of grow of it :)

Personally mate I use flouros for vegging as I don't like using HPS at that stage although that's personal preference, others use them for vegging fine or metal halides etc, you don't want to be putting those cuttings under a HPS yet unless it's very far away from them though as they wont like it, I'd just leave them in the prop where they are for a few days and keep an eye out for roots then pot up when they are established introduce lights by gradually lowering to the optimum distance then over the following days etc, if they bend away, they aint ready for it and increase the distance again.

(helpful to use some rootgrow or similar miccorihzal fungi when potting up too, especially if you've mixed in rockdust into your potting mix, it really does up their performance).

I take it you have a grow room or cabinet sorted with fan and filter?

If not, you need to get that done asap because they stink, even in veg ;)

As I said in the first post atm I haven't got a prop, I'm using a makeshift thing out of a Robinson squash bottle atm ;) and that's only for three of them. But my friend has one he's trying to fish out for me.

In regards to the lights bro I will probably have to invest in a better cfl light than the desk lamp I've been promised, as I don't wanna stress my little babies out yet but obviously want sufficient lighting.

And yeah man I've got a tent with extractor fan ( quite weak though) , and trying to sort out an intake fan aswell asap.

Your right man, Psychosis absolutely stinks! Even as little cuttings they have a slight smell to them.

Do you have any tips on the psychosis bearukc?

Couple more questions if that's ok....

Need help with nutes. Was thinking about just watering, with no nutes and going pure organic so I can get that beautiful organic psycho taste. However I want a decent yield too.

Now I haven't mixed my own soil, and the soil they're currently in is Bio bizz I think ( I didn't choose it, they came like it) . So what nutes should I think of using if I am to use nutes? Preferably organic.

I would of loved to mix my own super soil but this was all sprung on me really quick and I dint have a compost heap. Will mixing other soils with this Bio bizz ( not 100% sure it is but I think so) have any negative effect?

Thanks for your help guys

Not using nutes is not 'organic', it's just starving the plants. Not only will you not get good yield, you'll be lucky if they survive to harvest.

There's no real point in mixing composts unless you really know your shit, and even then I don't know many who'd bother.

I'd use plant magic or bio-bizz nutes myself.

Sorry to be a pain and ask yet another question, but does mineral water help? Obviously it contains minerals that plants need, and one of my friends swears by mineral water up until late veg. Is there a logical reason behind this?

I recently suggested to a different friend to use mineral water when he thought his plants were showing signs of a deficiency, he did so and apparently it helped clear them up. However, he stopped using it and the deficiency came back even more prominent. Is that because they were getting used to the extra nutes?

Thanks for your reply man, I was thinking about going plant magic organic nutes but I don't know an awful lot about them. Only grows I've ever done have been hydro, using crap ionic nutes, and I want to stem away from that. I'd like to try and stay as organic as I can

Dude, I'd listen to your friend less and listen to folks on here a bit more if you are wanting success with your girls, don't listen to speculation or snake oil salesmen etc, read some diaries and guides here as that will put you in the know ;) @@Nobody has advised you and he's right too. :yinyang:

That's why I'm here bro, I wanna learn as much as I can :D

Obviously when I see quality buds coming that my friends have grown, I feel inclined to listen to them, but I know that half the stuff they talk is a load of rubbish just from what I've read and basic common sense. But I would like to know guys how are they pulling off nice buds with decent yields without use of nutes? Would it be down to the soil and luck?

I've got no real tips for Psychosis -it was an easy plant to grow. I did mine in Canna Pro+ soil and used Bio-bizz nutes. I added extra perlite to the soil and a teaspoon of epsom salts (for extra magnesium). I have a mate who uses Plant Magic and he gets on Ok with it. Nutes and soil are all much of a muchness -not much to choose between them. You'll be fine with bio-bizz soil.

I would feed with veg nutes at half strength for the first 2 weeks of flower. 3rd week, full strength but a half and half mix with flower nutes. After that full strength bloom. You don't need to flush in soil. Mineral water is a waste of money imho - I use tapwater.

What is almost more important is creating a nice environment for the plants to grow in. Concentrate on that and you should do OK. They are weeds and are pretty easy to grow :)

When you pot up into the next size pot mate, the mix will usually supply all the nutrients for on average 2 weeks (this can vary depending on which mix you use as some are lighter than others). So lets say (hypothetical scenario) you start a seed in a jiffy or starter pot then put it into a 1 litre pot when rooted through the first pot, you wouldn't need to give liquid feed until a fortnight after, but by this time it should have rooted through (if not then some veg nutes may be required, depends on what the plants looking like) once rooted you would then pot up into a larger pot, say 3.5 litre, the new compost in there then would provide nutes until the next pot up, if not rooted through same as before, keep going like this until in your final pots (potting up in stages like this ensures a robust root system and that's one of the keys to success mate, lots of healthy roots = nice top growth and buds).

Now of course once they are in the finals they will deplete the mixes nutrient content after a while and will thus require supplementation either salt based or organic (whichever is your preference)
