yield and vigour in cuts from fully revegged plants

17 posts in this topic

As title, s there any difference in yield or vigour in cuts from plants that have been through a full flowering cycle and then revegged?

or will the cuts behave in the same way as if they were taken from the plant in its normal (virgin) pre-flower veg phase?

the reason I ask is there is that due to an accident there is an army of hacks on the go ATM, - so many that some will have to go to friends, and there is no way we can take cuts of all of them.

If there is no real difference in yield/vigour from cuts taken from revegged plants then we can just reveg the keepers which would save us a world full of hassle and grief and worry.

I have run cuts from revegged mums years and years ago which seemed to do OK, maybe a bit less vigor but I cant remember if we even compared weights and it was far from scientific and memory fades.

not looking for opinions or theories here, just growers with direct experience of the issue in question.

Do they behave more or less the same as normal veg cuttings or is it plant dependant?

Or does it produce weaker clones and only make sense if you want too keep a strain alive for breeding?

really appreciate any feedback.

the only difference is the way they start growing when you reveg,(all deformed new growth until fully vegged) and it takes an extra couple of weeks difference compared to normal cuts before there ready to flower, but otherwise its just the same as normal cuttings.

they can lose vigour tho. depends on the plant.

I have re vegged a couple that were never as good as the original.

I'm with the Chang on this one. They can loose some ummphhh IMO.

Characteristics in terms of end buds shouldn't change at all, but I have had this before and felt the plants appeared to have taken a beating in way of structure. I had this happen to me by accident due to a lighting fuck up, and the plant I was cloning I had already done 3 crops from, and on the 4th from the re-vegged plant they were not the same, and although I am not sure it wasn't just coincidence one of the clones went AWOL Re-Veg on me 3 weeks into flower, it was a proper nightmare, so I outed the plants after harvest and started a fresh with seeds.

GV.

This was my creepng feeling alright. the one I did seemed to bifurcate ecessively after topping compared to the original and lose some umpf but again It wasn't scientific.

Perhaps there is a way to breathe some new life into those plants that lose a bit of umpf?

Have you done it much fellas? roughly how many times? and it all worked out OK?

At the end of the day yield is the main thing and if that stays roughly the same then we'll be revegging the keepers

what percentage of plants would you say suffer from loss of umpf ?

and what sort of difference did you notice in yield percentage wise in those plants if any?

cheers

What you grow your plants out to will matter.

Growing a cut out a week or 2 in a sog style, from a sprig of a single bladed cut, isn't always enough time for growth n hormonal changes to get to a full on healthy vigorous growth.

Never noticed much change in the long run with anything on cuts any time I've done it.

Seeing it right now with revegged plants themselves aside from their cuts.

Couple I been playing with revegging over and over on I think their 4th runs now.

They sometimes seem to take some time getting back to a full veg mode but given the time to do so they seem to perform the same time n time again in the end, n especially the end product.

My interest is more into how the seed of a plant that is left to survive into an older age season after season effected.

Seen a study proposing that as ppl grow older they make better kids more suited to the environment as epigenetic changes have stabilized over time in the parents etc.

So maybe there's something to be said for older multi seasoned parental lines.

Dunno, but should be interesting to poke around n see if I notice anything.

I'd say have at 'em, cut's a cut in the end n with the same environment for them I don't think you should see any real noticeable change.

good luck with it, n cheers,.................................................gps

I used to take cuts from flowering girls constant cause of no veg space, I also found cuts in flower root quicker than from normal pre flower plants, I've never noticed a drop in vigour but there's every possibility others do

I've done it with a few plants. Most were ok.

It's allways the ones you love the most. lol.

Not really a loss in yield but flavour mainly.

I re vegged a strawberry kush that had been serial cloned and it LOOKS the same as b4.

The flavour is not as noticeable now tho. Same with the headband I had. :(

Ive done it with a killerskunk. The yield was top draw but there was nannas on a few of the buds which definitely wasnt on the original. No light leaks, tried and tested grow area.

One cut I and a few mates have had for years which was already quite fussy has got weaker and less vigorous but still smells & tastes the same. It's been re-vegged from early flower and stressed in other ways countless times and it's definitely shown. The original grower has grown it since and agrees, and apparently a chap in another town has an earlier cut of it that still behaves like it used to..

Maybe with enough stressors they get more easily stressed, like whatever stress responses in terms of chemicals or hormones run out.. And/or they switch between certain growth genes depending on the environment, and eventually get stuck in 'stress mode', like nervous wrecks. Sort of minimizing the risk of growing fast in a varying environment.. Plants have been shown to have forms of functional memory, there are trees which change the flavour of their leaves as a reaction to being over-eaten, eventually producing toxins if the animal doesn't get the message... Tangent, soz, muy baked :spliff::D
