Grow Tent Insulation

20 posts in this topic

We moved to a bigger house with a double garage in March and had been growing in there over the last few months.

I have been using a 2.4x2x1.2 grow tent for flowering, so temps have not really been a problem but now that its getting a little bit chillier I need to take some action.

I don't really have the cash right now to build a contained grow space to put the tent inside so was wondering if it was possible to insulate the inside of the grow tent with some celotex?

Anyone ever done that before?

You could try wrapping the outside of it with bubble wrap, or even better the foil insulation bubble wrap you can get! ;)

I think i'm gonna just insulate with Celotex on the inside of the tent for now. Will try and grab pics of how everything goes..

Well if you've already got the celotex then it won't cost much to knock a frame together?

If I built a frame, would I not need to do stud work, then put the insulation in/on then cover it over? I just don't have the cash right now to be doing a full enclosed space. For now. If I use the celotex on the inside of the tent, at least I will be able to re-use it if I come to build an external frame in the future?

growing in a tent in a garage in winter time is a major pita unless its adequately insulated & you have a heater or 2 burning away.

I ran a nft system in the garage one winter and keeping the roots warm is easy in that system.

ive been thinking about building underfloor heating for a tent. a tube heater or 2 in between some lats S bended like a typical heat exchanger 1 intake with the tube heater in then putting an air tight base with holes drilled in on top of lats. then other intake on top of the base with other tube heater in intake sealed up at end and holes put in ducting where you want air to blow. the base is the problem don't know what material to use. sorry for hijaking

Wotcha Doobz dood, I grow in a 'shed' :innocent: so first I got some underlay and laid it on the concrete floor, then put 'clik' floorboards - those that slot together - on top so that I had protection from cold coming up, then hung a tarp along the walls and then a roll of that anti-heat/reflection, so that it went from the floor up to the ceiling, across the ceiling and down to the floor, then built the tent inside that. I've got a 2 foot tube heater on the floor of the tent, this is plugged into a temperature plug so that if it gets cold outside the tent the heater comes on. The main trouble I get is making sure that if it snows then I don't get the only roof that's got no snow on it, however with the anti-reflect it doesn't do it that often.

If you want to test whether you get a heat show, use an iPad 'Photo Kiosk (or Booth' I think it's called) and it shows if any heat's coming through.

I did do a diary about it on 420, but that was about 5 years ago :oldtoker: Bom Shiva

PS. Shedzzzz rool :yep:

If your garage has a cold floor stick a sheet of the celotex underneath it.

Unless i'm missing something, would it not be better to put the celotex on the outside?
More space inside the tent, no chance of nasty fibres sticking to your plants.

Hey dudes,

Thanks for all the help. I can put the insulation outside or inside, just seemed to make more sense inside to me. No drama either way.

I managed to get 6 sheets of 25mm sheets of celotex today. 1 for the floor, 1 for the roof, then to do the walls with the other bits. Managed to get it for £15.09 a sheet.

The one problem I have is the ceiling in the garage is a smidge over 2m so putting the celotex on top of the tent would be a tight fit as the tent is 2m high.

I checked in the attic of the garage and there is no insulation in there. Hopefully with it being such a large space and having that ceiling, the snow in the winter will not be too much of a problem. If it comes down to it, I can always vent out of an air brick in the side of the garage

At the moment, everything is good without the insulation but I know when it starts to bite, that space could get chilly.

Temps lights out is about 18C and lights on is about 24C with the setup below

1 Echotecnics Evo,

1 600W Oil filled,

2x600W 6" RVK Air cooled reflectors,

2x6" RVK out both with Carbon Filters,

1x4" in from warm veg tent.

The enviroment in the warmer months was spot on. Yields were in and above the 1g/pw easily so now its just a case of dialling it over winter.

In the last place we ran in the loft for 2-3 years and I can remember how cold it used to get up there but with keeping everything nice and simple we got things going well.

I plan to make a start on it tomorrow so if I can, I'll deffo grab some pics.

thanks again..

Thought that was bollocks about the iPad photo booth ap. Seems that it is a thermal camera in this mode! Would never have believed it

ETA Scratch that... All it does is 'solarises' visible light, just heated up a piece of metal to about 400oC, didn't register on the photo booth ap at all. The flame did, however. USE AT YOUR RISK!

I've got a smiler problem at the min loads of condensation in my garage tent luckily it's my veg tent so not to bad but I neeed another heater in there now to keep the temp up. That I phone app is boll lox it's not real. Unless the app has found a way of sneaking up to your phone and fixing a new camera to it

Yea, I dunno about fancy I-phone stuff.

anyways. I uhmd and ahhd, about doing some sort of a frame and insulate everything but it just would not work out properly and I would have to tear everything down and re-build it to get the frame up. Mid grow so a bit of a PITA..

First piece is in and even though it was a bit of a mission I got it all in. all the other Pieces should be simple as they will just fit onto the frame with some cable ties.

Few pics of the roof (1st) piece in..

I had my veg tent in the garage in my old house, I just threw a few rolls of loft insulation over the top & left the light on 24/7, they were happy through the minus 15s we had a few year ago.
