PondLife

Have had to deal with a lot of flack lately so needed to keep my mind occupied. Sort of person who needs to be doing something all the time. The more graft involved the happier I am. Spent most of my life fishing but slowed down of late to do lots of other interesting work. Needed to explore my more creative side...

So this pond needed doing. It was tired after 15 years and needed a complete rebuild.

Had a horizontal type juniper smothering everything except the bindweed that had taken over. The sludge underneath was foul and all the filtration system had worked it's way up through the gravel.

It all had to go...

The capping stones had to come off as the liner was shredded.

All the old filter system had to be taken out...along with the Aloe Vera plant grrr 'kin hate moving them! Bloody things...

Underlay is still holding out after 15 years.

So were gonna keep that.

This end needed leveling to take the new filters so as to hide them behind the rockery.

Formed a ledge to sit some rocks on.

When the pond was originally built most of the stones were unofficially donated by coastal protection! Too many had found their way underwater so now we needed them to cover the filter tanks.

New liner looks nice.

Now to get creative HeHeHee Didn't know how this was going to turn out as it was unplanned. Throw some rocks together and see what happens..! After all, isn't that how the Earth was formed?!

It starts coming together.

Had problems with herons in this garden mate. Lost some fine fish over the years. Looking at installing an automated net that covers the pond at night. Work is still in progress so will update when it nears completion.

You need a fake heron sat next to pond they wont feed together.

Serious mate!

Also bit of fishing wire around circumference.

Love me cups of tea LG. Give me a packet of hobnobs and enough tea to swill em down and i'll graft 48 hrs solid!

We did have a fake heron EF, but I think it's effectiveness wore out when it never moved for years! hehee

Thanks for correcting me on the plant Mephitis. Vicious thing! Blood well know about it when they jab ya!

Got some nice weather forecast for the next week so hoping to finish this project soon. Going to concentrate on my grow this weekend as I seem to have fallen behind. Nothing that a few hours digging won't solve...
