Jim's Competition Diary

338 posts in this topic

Hello Chaps

Organic Jim here with a brand new diary courtesy of Dutch Passion and their generous handout of competition seeds.

I have been given the chance to grow out Taiga and Think Different for the Automatic plants, and Night Queen a resurrected Indica from the early 90s.

According to the Dutch Passion website to get Think Different....

We used a Dutch Passion genebank strain called AK420 to start the process, this is a heavy yielding AK47 hybrid with extreme potency levels. AK420 was systematically crossed with a carefully chosen Ruderalis. The aim was to surpass the high standards set by the 2011 AutoFem bestseller AutoMazar.

Think Different’ is a heavy yielding AutoFem strain, it gives strong homogenous plants typically 1-1.5m tall that can occasionally yield 250-300g per plant under optimum conditions. Think Different is roughly 60% Sativa, 20% Indica and 20% Ruderalis. Indoor production levels of upto 500g/m² have been seen by Dutch commercial growers. Seed to harvest is just 9 weeks and with THC levels measured at 18% this is a heavy-hitting easy-to-grow strain that serious growers like you are simply not allowed to miss!

9 weeks start to finish eh? Well the seedlings are up so we'll soon see! That brings us up the weekend of 12/13 May.

And the other Auto, again from the DP site

Taiga is an hybrid between an auto-flowering Ruderalis/Indica and Power Plant. From our famous Power Plant gene pool we selected an extreme early flowering female Power Plant. This female we used to produce the female pollen. These pollen we used to fertilze the female Ruderalis/Indica. Taiga grows with big compact buds. The smell and taste are evident Power Plant. Taiga is a very good yielder for such a small plant. Taiga does not ask for a special fertilizing regime, which means that it’s easy to grow. Containers of 1.5 to 2 liters are sufficient to garantee a good harvest. Taiga loves a place in the sun, which she needs for a quality yield. Taiga has a short lifecycle, from seed to bud 8 to 10 weeks. Height of plants: 50-60 cm

I have grown DP's Power Plant before and enjoyed it a great deal. 8 to 10 weeks makes roughly the same harvest date as Think Different.

And the Photoperiod seeds to be germinated when the Autos are nearly done.

After an absence of 10 years Dutch Passion are pleased to announce the return of Night Queen . Night Queen was an original 1980’s Dutch Passion classic, around even before Dutch Passion became a registered seed company. Our 1987 catalogue describes Night Queen as a broadleaved Afghani Indica which was popular with hardcore stoners for the intense body stone. We upgraded Night Queen in 1997 but sales dropped as growers opted for the newer strains and hybrids which were being introduced at the time. Reluctantly Night Queen was withdrawn from our collection.

We have had many requests to bring Night Queen back and so we did. Our goal was to re-create an Indica which would meet the world class standards achieved by our multiple award winning Mazar. The outcome was a crystal covered, fast early flowering and typically indica variety which is easy to grow and resistant to pests and fungus. The new Night Queen is forgiving and very easy to take cuttings from, a perfect mother plant. She is short and will suit indoor growers looking at SOG/SCROG techniques. The name is an accurate one since most of the plants are a very dark green, almost black. The females are quite special, dark, beautiful and with heavy harvests of frosty, hard and dense bud growth – these are real Queens. High THC and CBD levels will appeal to medical growers, as will the very generous yields of over 500grams/m² under good conditions.

Night Queen is one of those rare genuine hash-plant smokes, a rich Afghani Indica heritage producing highly potent resin-frosted bud. Night Queen is a heavy yielder with all the earthy aromas you hope for in a top quality marijuana strain with the addition of some spicy flavours that the old-timers and connoisseurs will savour. The top class body stone remains a key feature of Night Queen, this is a second chance to get the best ever version of a 1980’s classic which is on the same high-end quality level as Mazar.

Sounds really nice!

Okay, let's rock

Here's the Hatchlings.

Photo and update time folks.

Day 6 since bean pop. Lighting is 400w (18" away) MH 20h on 4h off, EC of Grow Nutes is 0.8, pH is 6.0. passive intake thus far, and a clip on fan blowing 'twixt lamp and plantlets.

Sad to say one of the Think Different had funny ideas about where to put her taproot and ended up stuck in the shell, by the time I realised there was a problem, she'd started to die.

All the others are doing good though.

2 Think Differents have the plant label, the 3 Taiga have no label.

Wazzup O.J.? I like your choices in music - i guess you're oldschool like me ;) i still consider mix master mike to be one of the best hip hop djs! This man can scratch and he once said in an interview: "he's communicating with aliens!" - made me laugh.

Good luck with your grow! I hope the poor TD will recover... I'll be growing the "think different" as well, but received the tundra as the second pack to try out. Will be nice to compare. Can't wait to get started, but this will take another couple of months since i'm growing them outdoors.

cheers and do your update ;)

Hi everyone, I'm going to do a photo update later today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, thanks for looking in folks.

The EC is still low at around the .85-1.0 mark, pH is 6.0.

Plants are in 6.5L pots now and the roots have hit the pot bottoms. We are 2 weeks from sprouting at this point.

AustrianTokker, the 3rd Think different died sadly :blub: but hopefullt, the others will fill out the space nicely.

This should entertain until the photos arrive.
