So, i wanted to take everyone's advise and get a carbon filter, but the prices are shocking. making do with a bag of carbon open in the tent, and ona outside. Then saw a cheap 8 inch carbon filter. A bit dozy of me, but it never occured to me how huge this thing was going to be. Its an eight inch duct filter, eg inner diam. the carbon thickness is 40mm, so with prefilter its damned near 12 diam and over 400mm long. For a micro grow. FFS, my tent is 60x60 x 120. I can just about jam it into a top corner, but god knows how to duct it. but big issue is - it weighs over 12kg!!!!!! Its a great bit of kit! So, realistically, even if it supports it at first, i reckon my tent is going to be on the edge of collapse!!! any comments on this please?. it is steel framed, not plastic. but not huge, Second question is, without a variable fan, i will be changing the entire air every few seconds or so!!! I simply wont be able to maintain temp and humididty. Therefore i plan to recirculate the air through the filter instead and never extract it. I will have the passive intakes wide open at the bottom, and the ducts open at the top. Is this full recirc ok? Plants are very small so dont influence the atmosphere much.

Hello All, Firstly, apologies if this question is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. New grower here. I have used this forum to very good effect, it helped me choose an inline fan (AC Infinity Cloudline 4). I will be venting from a 60x60x120 (3 Royal Dwarf plants, currently beginning to bloom in the spare bedroom but it's getting smelly, hence the upgrade) tent up into the loft and out through and existing vent tile in the roof. My question is: Do people recommend a carbon filter too, or will venting out of the roof be OK. If it's a yes, can anyone advise as to a good filter for this setup? Thanks in advance.

Hello Is the filter necessary? What is it filtering? Also which direction should it go? One end is different to the other (inside). The instructions don't mention a direction Cheers

Hi All, My first post so please bear with me as I’m not too sure if this is in the correct place. I have a 1.2mx1.2m.2m green qube tent and I’m struggling on which size extraction fan and filter I need. I’m wanting to go with rhino filter and rvk fan as this combo looks popular on this site. any suggestions please? Thank you

Hi Chaps, I've seen many questions regarding filters and fans but have not managed to make sense enough to answer a question i have regarding the sizes. If I have a fan with 800m3/hr, what are the effects of oversizing the filter (eg 1200m3.hr)? I assume that it would offer less resistance, and therefore more efficient airflow through the system, but my question is whether the carbon filter, in order to filter odours properly, would need air to flow over them at the rated speed or is it just a max flow figure? eg is it safe (odour wise) to run air at less than the rated figure as specified for the filter? Cheers as always!

Hi, I've seen quite a few posts recently about saving head room in a tent, or not being able to lift the equipment to the top of the tent. It is often assumed that this is where the carbon filter must be located but there are other options, the fan & cf can even go outside the tent it necessary. I am in a wheelchair so had to opt for #4 in the below diagram with the fan & filter in a box on the floor (outside the tent) with a cushion underneath to dampen the vibrations/noise and it works a treat. Good negative pressure in the tent, no whiffs, job's a good 'un. (Fan blows air through filter). Hope this helps a few of you Tip: fully stretching out ducting reduces noise. Found this diagram on this forum but forget who posted it. If this is your picture, thank you

Does anyone use an intake filter in there set up? Personally would like to know for a 4ft x 4ft Tent. If so would you recommend it as essential for every set up?

Hello all, first post on here so please be gentle. First of all, I'd like to say thanks to all the regular contributors that take time to answer questions and make this site the wealth of information that it is. I've been scouring the site since I joined, trying to get as much info as I can as I have decided the time has come to try and become self-sufficient. I will be growing in a tent in a spare room. I thought a 1.2 x 1.2 tent should be more than sufficient for my needs (4 plants max) but I'm not sure about fan and filter placement within the tent. I am looking at the 6" Silenced Vector EC Fan, which is 708mm long, with the CarboAir 60 150 660, which is 660mm long. Obviously, that makes 1368mm, so too big for my 1200mm tent. My question is this: is it possible to have the filter along the wall of the tent, with a right angle duct and then the fan along the back? As that is the only way I am going to get both in the tent. I could get the standard Vector EC fan, which I think is 425mm, but even then that would be tight, would it not? 425 + 660 = 1085mm. if I could put the filter along a side wall, with a right angle duct then fan along the back, it would solve my problems. I know angles aren't ideal, but surely that fan is powerful enough for that space for it to be ok. I hope this makes sense to those reading Thanks

Hi, I’m gradually buying everything I need for my first grow in about 25 years, so far I’ve got a 1.5x1.5 Green Qube tent, and an AC Infinity T6 fan, I’m thinking about getting a CarboAir 200x660 filter, thinking that the bigger filter that I get, the better as it’ll last longer before it needs replaced and the easier the air can flow through it the better, meaning I shouldn’t need to run the fan as hard to get a volume of air flowing through it. Is my thinking right or should I use a smaller filter? Also, I want things to be quiet as possible, and my ducting run will be pretty short, less than 2 meters from the fan to a wall vent exiting the house, is silent ducting worth the money? Cheers

Hello again, I seem to have a new question each week on this forum, I have a read on what I could find but the posts I did find was about 10 years old so not sure if filter technology advanced since or whatever Put the rubbish out this morning and it was frosty so I checked garage roof out my window and saw a melted patch of frost where my extraction reflects the warm air to the felted roof. Extraction fan is on 80%, anyhow I Went on garage roof to go see how powerful the air is coming out and check everything is OK up there. Now when I felted my roof around 4 months ago the air that was coming out the extraction was very fresh, although I was 7 weeks in to flower on my last batch, there was a slight sweet rubbery smell... Almost like the smell of old nutes which I assumed was the filter doing its job? Well when I went on the roof today It had that sweet rubbery old nute smell and it was slightly stronger than I remember but it also had a very very slight plant smell to it.. Not like the bus but more like the stem smell. Now im at week 9 of flower today and there is 11 days left till harvest.. I'm going to wait till this grow is done to go out and swap filters over as I can hardly get in my room now and I'd hate the have to change the filter now incase I drop it or cause another nightmare. I'm going to buy a 8" 65mm carboair filter to replace my 8" 50mm carboair which is 1 year old now and 3 grows in. What is that smell tho? Has anyone else ever had it? I read about high humidity causes filters to fail so I'm going to buy dehumidifier for future grows so humidity doesn't climb so high aswell.

Hello all, little run down. Coco grower here, I've built my own room in garage which I'd insulated with celotex and all sealed up properly. 6inch intake and a 8 inch outtake extracted through flue on roof. 2.4m long x 1.6m wide, 2m height. I use a 50mm carboair filter which I believe is 200mm x 600mm. Im growing Dinafems og cookies, flushing right now but the last 2 weeks I walked out my front door to out stuff in bins or go out in car and especially on the cold mornings and nights I kept catching a slight woft of the gassy cookies, 1st time I smelt this I went on to the roof and smelt in various places and I got a fishy, cotton, flowery smells abit like a nute smell. Extememly mild plant like smell (not a bud smell more like a broken stem smell) Week passed by so I'd be in week 8 of flower and I'm smelling a little woft of cookies as the wind passed me and I'm pulling my hair out at this point. Back on the roof and no smell of bud. But this morning I'm 3 days away from harvest and I shit you not I've caught a right woft of cookies under my nose! Now I'm shitting a brick!!! You have to get in the corner of my garden and really clear your lungs and take a slow breathe in the nose to catch the smell, obvs I know what the gassy fuelly smell is very distinctively as I smell it every day when I go to the flower room. I've never caught a smell at the end of my garden by the path and trust me Im purposely loitering the end of my garden on the phone trying to catch a smell. What I'm going to do I put Sundays chicken carcass in the bin and out it at the end of my garden with lid open a little, in a bid that people are gonna start walking fast past my garden So when I catch a smell I'm getting the cotton, fishy filter smell I discribed earlier but a smell of the cookies is definetly escaping with it. I'm only on my 3rd grow now and my filters failing? I've put this down to 75% humidity and the 50mm not being sufficent I've got a new carboair 60mm 200mmx660mm on the way tomorrow but I'm unable to change it over untill I've harvested the 1st 2 plants Friday. Someone please tell me to get a grip and ride it out till Friday

Sorry probably been done to death, but done a search and couldnt find much What is the best way to attach filters to fans? and fans to duct? as mine came with 2 clips, for the duct I assumed, or is it for the fan and filter, or do you just use tape? Reading alot of contradicting opinions Also, when attaching fans and filters is it quieter to attach them straight to each other or put a meter of duct between them? or does it make no odds Fans are ruck and filter is rhino pro

So I have a Bay 6 XL loft tent running a Telos-0008 and only currently have a 4" extraction fan sucking through a Ox carbon filter. I am looking to upgrade my ventilation system and having a intake fan paired with a fan speed controller to keep the environment dialled in. I am considering venting into a box buried underneath the shed filled with woodchips and some kind of oil or smell neutraliser, as im paranoid that my Sticky Beast Autos are going to stink to high heaven come flower ripening time and my neighbours are going to suss me out. Has anyone ever done something like this before ? Im hoping that if I rig it up properly and get a decent fan system inside the tent and outside in the shed venting down the same ducting into the box and then out into the underneath of the shed I can kill a lot of the odour and stay stealth - thoughts please?

Please move if posted in wrong place Hi everyone. Been reading on here for a while found a lot of helpful information that’s helped me with my first few attempts. Long story short I started growing to help my mum who had terminal cancer with pain relief, fast forward 18 months and I’m now on my 4th grow. I’m struggling to achieve gpw and think this is down to my environment. I have a 1.2m bloomroom loft tent. I have a 6 inch outtake with a rhino filter. Currently using passive intake with a bit of ducting from room below. Running a 600w hps with dimmable omega ballast. X2 oscillating fans, humidifier for veg. 700w oil filled rad for lights off. My fan is a rhino thermostatic but I don’t think the temp control is very reliable. I’ve been using 11l pots with pure canna coco. Using canna range a and b, rhiz, cannazym, boost and pk. Swapped pk for bloombastic on current grow as advised by someone better than me lol. Watering every 2 days up to 2.5L in flower! Don’t seem to be getting the growth I would like in veg and seems to take forever for them to gain size! Now for the questions please! Do I need an intake fan? If so what size? Recommendations on fan controllers for intake outake and heater? Or easiest way to control them all? Would I be better doing 9x6.5l? Less veg time? If so would I put them straight under hps from cutting? A lot more info to share with you guys if you need any to help me! Sorry to ask so many questions on my first post! Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone, I am new here so firstly I would like to say hi to everyone and that I look forward to what I hope will be a long journey here on this forum. I have never grown before and I am currently prepping for my first, I will be germinating this weekend. I have just been calibrating my new pH & EC readers (both are Essentials) and getting base readings for our water. Here's where things are getting a little strange, we have an undersink reverse osmosis filter (we've had this for some time now as I don't want the tap water for obvious reasons, I have however replaced all the filters a few days ago to get the best of the best for my girls-to-be) and I know manufacturer (iSpring Water Systems) specification is that water pH should come out at 7.4, it came out at 8 which is fine for myself and will just have to use a lot of down, but the EC reading has come out at 0.8, which even as a virgin grower I know is waaaay higher than the majorities. I know that during filtration some ionised minerals are added (calcium, magnesium, sodium & potassium), but this has thrown me off completely as I now have no idea where I'm at with nutrients. My plan was to start the seedlings off with around 0.5-0.6 EC (assuming a base of 0.2) as I am growing in coco, so 0.8 is already higher than that without any nutes added. Should I just treat this as my base? Should I use normal tap water? I really am lost and have no idea how to even find the answer. Any help or general beginners advice would be hugely appreciated. I'm so excited to be joining this wonderful community and can't wait to progress, happy growing!

Hello fellow tokers and growers, I have a serious question about having a 1.2x1.2 tent in my bedroom where I sleep! The issue I have is where I can put the extracted air from out of my grow room..... i was contemplating 1000w led in the tent either growing in a single Dwc pot or coco or possibly organic, I'm still weighing up the pros and cons to each media... how ever I am curious as to any ways I can dispose of my waste air out of the grow room?? Is there anything that can be attatched to the end of the ducting?? The only solution I can see is by having the ducting as close to my window as possible...... if any of you guys had any ideas or solutions with my problem I'd greatly appreciate any advice.... thanks

Hi guys! Super excited to grow my own bud! Been reading this forum for a little while which has been very helpful but thought I would start my own topic for some personalized help. Right! So... I have just purchased my seeds (LowRyder #1 They didn't have and #2s) and tent which is a 60x60x140. I am now looking for recommendations for Lights, fans & filters. Once I get the whole setup sorted then I will then start looking into what soil, nutrients etc that i will need any recommendations on those would be amazing too! The budget for the lights, fans & filter is around £120 if that helps?! Light wise I would like to keep the heat/electric bill low don't fancy a knock on the door haha! Looking forward to talking with you (Supper excited for this, has took me 3years to convince the Girlfriend!!) and getting some answers! *Just to add I will be growing 1 plant maybe two but no more than that, Can you grow from start to finish with a full spec LED? I can also go more than 120 but that's a good starting point Cheers! JordySmoke

Hello,i got a 2.4x2.4m tent ,fitted 4x 600w lamps in it with aircooled reflectors I don't know where to put the carbon filters I'll try to explain : here is how i positioned the reflectors Reflector1-tube-reflector2-tube -airvent reflector3-tube-reflector4-tube-airvent so reflectors 1 and 2 are in a straight line ,same goes for 3 and 4 i was thinking of adding carbon filters directly between the reflectors so i hit 2 birds with 1 stone ( suck the hot air from the reflectors + suck the air from the tent aswell) so it would be Reflector 1 - carbon filter 1-reflector 2-air vent same for reflectors 3-4 or should i do it like that : carbon filter-reflector-tube-reflector2-airvent ? The fan i will be using to extract is pretty powerfull : Tornado 10 Inch Silent Acoustic Wooden Box Fan 250mm 3250 m3/h ,which will be outside the tent. Thanks in advance

Hi peeps, looking for a bit of advice, it`s a part of my current build and ive went off on a bit of a stoned tangent today during the build and can`t quite figure this out so any input appreciated. I`ve got a dr80 in a shed which is mostly air/light tight but for the intake and extract 5" spigoted holes and a slight gap round some of the door frame, talking about a mm or 2 at most in a few spaces where the timbers are a bit warped. I spent a fair bit of time with weatherproof seals padding it out to get it as close as possible & still closing properly, but it`s not airtight. Now to keep flying beasties out of that gap & out of my shed completely I thought what about a slightly larger intake than my extract? It blows into the shed and not directly into the cab(which uses its passives) it`ll produce decent positive pressure inside the shed, forcing air into the cab and also out that air gap in the door frame . . . BUT - will I risk smell leaks or will the nearly matched extract still pull everything from within the cab through the filter? Thanks for your thoughts.

I have a friend who is doing their first legal grow in America, however his internet has crashed so he has contacted me to try and find a solution. The Problem is heat! It is a stealth cabinet grow currently with a 125w dual spectrum for 2 plants in 5l pots. They understand that this might not be the best set up but its what they have. Apparently temps usually sit around 85'F or 29.5'C which is quite hot on its own but temps have reached 111'F or 44'C on the odd occasion. The temps are being measured at the average height of the plant, Apparently they are around 2 weeks old (from sprouting) and are an autoflower strain. They haven't browned or discolored and are still a health green and growing daily, however some of the leaves are curling up at the edges and some apparently seem to be almost spiraling around ( not curling under but twisting sideways) not massively but a little. There are 2 80mm PC fans ,one intake and one outtake, which more than cover the cfm needed for the space. So what do you think he should do to reduce the temps? Add two more PC Fans? Also if they were do do this, roughly speaking one fan is in a bottom corner and the other is in the opposite top corner, would the two extra fans if they were to be attached on the opposite side of the cabinet be placed so that the intake are both at the front and outake both at the back or so that both intakes are say bottom right on each side, so from the front one would be near the front and one near the back? Add a PC fan inside to increase circulation? Reduce light hours as they are currently running 20/4 - 20 on and 4 off Also can anyone recommend any threads about building scrubbers/ carbon filters? Would a carbon cooker hood filter work? As apparently it has started smelling not of full flower but a smell they would like to remove. Thanks in advance for any replies!
-
Just need some advice/opinions on single fan filter and hood set up's, currently I have a 4" filter and and fan (wolfnado) twin speed. So currently have the filter connected to one end of the hood, the other end of the hood connected to the fan the fan is sucking air out! Some air is sucked through the not so air tight hood, so some smells do escape! A fellow grower has suggested that instead of sucking that blowing through the hood might be better? Any opinions on that? I know I should probably run a separate fan for the hood but I'm trying to minimise the amount of equipment etc...

From the album z1st Grow, Hyrdo, Wilma 4 DS120
So day 1 of opening boxes and setting the tent up, bigger than I thought it would be, hey ho, the filter also looked massive, the straps with the tent don't really seem fit for purpose, but I think I have it secured o the far edge bar as seems only place to fit it.. not much room around the light so will be interesting if it fills out how to get to other sides as only one door on this tent ......good luck me I guess...in at the deep end..
