  1. I have a 4" carbon filter which still has plenty of use in it. I'm thinking of upgrading my fan though as temperatures got dicey when I added more light in bloom last time and don't really want to fork out for another filter. Will a 6" fan (Can max-fan pro) make my 4" Rhino hobby filter die extremely quickly? Thanks all.
  2. Hello! I have recently purchased this Variac: https://www.sentera.eu/Product/Details/eng/108450/230-VAC-transformer-fan-speed-controller-15-A and this extraction fan: https://www.amazon.co.uk/XFLO100S-Inline-Bathroom-Extractor-Standard/dp/B01GCG35RA Despite reading the mounting instruction, I have literally no idea on what to do to connect the Variac to my fan. I have tried searching on the forum but I am not able to find a step-by-step guide for newbies like me. This is the last problem I need to solve before starting my grow, so I would really appreciate if someone who's got a similar setup could help me out. There's nothing on Youtube and can't seem to find anything that explains the mounting for a complete electricity illiterate. Thanks in advance guys.

  5. Hi all, first of all I have to say how brilliant this community is! So much useful info all in one place. So I am very close to starting the process of creating medicine for my nephew who has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time, this time in his neck, stomach and chest. He has had chemo each time and has beaten it but this time it has come back worse hence turning to cannabis medication.I have done endless research on the different ways to create the extract and it seems like every way has its own risks involved so after much consideration I have decided on the method below and just want to run it by the experts before I get going. So here we go...... 1) lightly grind and decarb the bud in the oven between sheets of grease proof paper (will double check times and duration before hand) 2) Leave to cool and grind to dust3) load dust into extraction tube using coffee filters over the open end secured with tape/rubber bands? (Any more secure method anyone could suggest?)4) blast the product using DEXSO - DIMETHYL ETHER near zero impurities into a Pyrex tray(This is one of the main things I would like advice on, does anyone know much about this product? I’ve looked into it as much as I can and sounds as though it would be a much healthier option than butane, it’s even used to collect natural oils in certain food preperation)5) soon as the oil/dexso mix stops dripping from the extractor, move the Pyrex tray to a hot water bath for the mix to evaporate until it stops bubbling6) collect the oil with razor blades on to grease proof paper spreading it thin and even(the nice and messy bit!)7) place collected oil on the g/p paper into a vacuum chamber 8) place chamber on a gentle heating device and turn on vacuum pump. (Not sure what to use yet as the heating device but I have my laser gun thermometer ready to make sure the oil doesn’t get to hot)(Should have mentioned that I have made oil (BHO) before but not for medical use hence the extra precautions this time round. I’ve always purged only using heat before so from the vacuum chamber onwards it’s all new to me)9) oil will bubble and expand which I plan on just judging by eye when to stop the pump, letting the oil decrease in size, popping the large bubbles with the tip of a razor and repeating until I am happy that I have got out every impurity that I can.10) place final product in fridge to solidify (I am hoping for something close to the consistency of shatter when cooled so that I can snap and weigh easily, if the final product is too soft I will most likely opt for empty capsules to easily control dosage)11) weigh out doses that will also be left in the fridge12) take doses as you would a tablet with ice cold water so the oil doesn’t start to liquify until it’s in the stomachAny advice from anyone that has solid knowledge would be much appreciated, especially on the solvent (dexso) that I plan on using and anything else that I could improve to create as clean of a product as possible.Thank you for reading.
  6. Hi all, just signed up after reading through A LOT of threads from here and various other forums over the past week, this one seems to have it all! Can’t wait to learn and share with each other. I am a big big smoker, no grows to date but hopefully one day. been making bho for last year or so and like to think I know my stuff well enough for anyone that wants to dab/smoke it. recently delved into the world of medicinal extracts for which I have derived my own method taking pieces from different methods I’ve found on the web to try and make it as clean as possible, looking to do my first run of this method in the next couple days and would love to hear what you guys think of it (tbh it’s pretty much just bho but using a different solvent). I will be posting in 1 of the medical forums shortly. thanks for reading guys and girls and look forward to chatting with some of you over the next couple weeks. BE LUCKY!
  7. First grow guys. Please don't bite. The search limit makes it difficult to self serve. We've just had our hottest May bank holiday on record and temps have been easy to manage in a 1m*1m tent with LED light and 2 cheap fans, no dedicated extraction fan fitted yet, The tent intake is passive, via a mesh window at the base of the tent. During those hot days, my temps were bouncing between 23 and 26.7. Happy days. It's got cooler recently and now I'm bouncing between 18 and 23 which I believe puts me on the borderline of shocking the plants. Today I'm fitting a 6 inch phresh extractor with manual speed controller in readyness for vegging. I feel that even at minimum speed, temps will drop further. So just looking for a cheap/low power option to get the temps up a couple of degrees and regulate them. My plants have just started producing their third nodes. Here is where my head is at... Digital LED Temperature Controller Thermostat For Aquarium Reptile AC-112 UK/ . £12 on ebay. with 250w Honeywell personal heater with a low/high setting hooked up to a cheap reptile thermostat. £30 on amazon which is a bit pricey. or 2000w portable fan heater with a low setting at 1000w. £12 screwfix. 500w oil filled radiator with adjustable mechanical thermostat. £20 screwfix. No need for a separate thermostat. Maybe I'll put the oscillating desk fan behind it so it is fanning warm air onto the plants. I'm concerned that the heat will just get sucked out of the tent and the plants get no benefit. Or maybe keep the inline fan switched off until the plants get bigger or outside temps pick up, and let the fans just waft the recycled air around in the tent with the door unzipped a bit. Or just crank the central heating up, fit the exhaust fan, put some inlet ducting to the radiator, close the passive mesh intake, close the door to the box room and keep the window open. Note : The radiator is under the window and the tent is located 1.5 meters away. Put my portable central heating thermostat in the grow tent and hope the tent is passively pulling warm air in. I also want a heating matt for my next grow. In summary. I'm leaning towards.... 500w oil filled radiator with adjustable mechanical thermostat and no bespoke thermostat. £20 screwfix. Hoping to rely on the integrated thermostat. 10inch * 20.75inch 18W Seedling Heat Mat Hydroponic Seed Reptile Plant Heating Pad £10.59 on ebay. Might try popping this under my pots. I'm still waiting for roots to pop out so that I can pot up into 0.5 litre root pouch. Thoughts guys?
  8. Hi guys (and girls), I am just in the process of building myself a small secondary room in my loft for purpose of clones/seeds/ and general vegging until all is good to go into my main room. My camera is broke on my phone so I can't show pictures at the minute, but out of beams of wood, 18mm loft paneling, and some mdf board I have my self a little box room that is 1.25m high, 1.7m wide and 0.9m long. Will be insulated and then reflected with mylar or radiator sheeting. White plastic sheet on the floor. (kinda proud of myself tbh) I just want some opinions as to whether extraction and filter is neccessary, I will be running a 300w CFL with a basic reflector and im hoping that keeps the temperature up during the colder months, light will be on between 20-24 hours a day to also aid to get it near to 21-22 as possible. If I can maintain the correct temps, and a correct humidity (for clones and young plants) with just the light and an osclillating desk fan, is extraction neccessary while theyre that small. I only want them around 10 inch max before I swap into my main room. Its all speculation of course at this stage, but I will be able to test in a day or two. Any advice always appreciated, as always.
  9. Hi all, finally got my first one up and running. It's been a lot of trial and error, putting things together, pulling them back down etc, but think I've finally got it somewhere near right. The biggest obstacle for me has been the noise of the extraction. I've made a shabby DIY silencer box out of cardboard, rockwool, acoustic ducting and a shit load of tape, hung it from the ridge in the loft and it seems to have (almost) done the trick. I can only hear air movement when I'm inside the grow room and it's cancelled out 99% of vibrations, had my ears to every wall floor and ceiling in the house. However I'm still paranoid, partly because I've been listening so much I can hear next door drop a pin and I'm thinking every noise I hear is "something up with the fan" or its moved, partly because I've boxed in an electrical appliance that's running 24/7, and stuffed it full of insulation is it a fire risk? When this is done I'd like to invest in a quieter extraction system for peace of mind. On ebay I've found things like QBF Low Noise Hydroponics Box Fan and also been looking at the TD fans. Are these any good or is an RVK in a home made box the way to go? Thanks all
  10. Would this fan, the one with the built in temp and speed controller, be too big for a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m high tent, running it on low speed? Its rated at only 29db, quieter than the 6" KSA. I need quiet as possible, just wondering if anybody uses them and if indeed they are quiet. And does the whooshing from the 8" ducting make much difference to 6" ducting? Cheers.

  12. I got to wondering why the Magic Butter Machine doesn't use water. So I put the GoogleFu to action. With two simple words 'wash cannabutter' gone are the days of the hand-me-down methods of the old hippy ways, we all cant help but trust. So if you dont wash out the chlorophyll when you simmer in water/butter, when do you? Simple... After! Same process we all know of adding water until clear. I'll outline what I have so far since this info isnt pinned on UK420, which was REALLY surprising. So correct if I'm wrong 1. All the other hash methods seek out PURE solvent. So why are butter makers diluting? PURE edible extract only! CLARIFIED BUTTER! Google it! 2. Grind and decarbox in oven in sealed jar @ 200F let cool before opening so any vapors settle. 3. Do 30 minutes (in double boiler method or magic butter machine) at no more than 230F - or whatever temp your heart/brain likes! 30 minutes is all you need with pure edible solvents 4. Leave all plant material in butter, and put in freezer for 12 or 24 hours. 5. Use double boiler to melt (NOT reheat!) butter to strain plant matter with cheese cloth or whatever method you like. 6. Refreeze. Add water, light melt, mix to wash. 7. Repeat step 6 until clear water Think about it people. If ice water hash works because THC is NOT SOLUBLE in water, its pointless, and actually harming your cannabutter during important time of extraction. Disclaimer: This is pretty much an article I found in my own words. read the source here
  13. Hi, Could you recommend a size fan/filter for a 1.2m x1.2m x 2m grow tent indoors in spear bedroom with 1 VIPARSPECTRA 900W LED light in tent? Soil grow, hand watering, autoflower, easy access to tent at all times. Was thinking maybe 5" would do it as LED light is half the heat of conventional grow lighting? Was also looking at purchasing the 600mm carbon filter but don't want to jeopardise noise? Noise and odours are unwanted so your recommendations/guidance would be greatly appreciated👍 Thank you
  14. So folks as the title says " What's the biggest extraction your running in your 240w tent ?" Cheers Al
  15. Looks like I might have a stroke of luck with a friend in need that will be living in one of my spare rooms temporarily. Just had my annual gas check done and signed off, so should be safe to get a grow on. My friend has a 7 ft x 7 ft tent and some experience growing. I know that it's in his interests to keep things quiet. He is a very private person with a healthy amount of paranoia, for a good reason. I was originally wanting to set up inside the house, but my friend noticed I have a large garage that was bricked up years ago (now basically a large outbuilding) He seems to think this would be a better idea. I'm not so sure, it would mean having to have electricity and sockets wired in there, so there are extra costs straight away. I know there are fans that run almost silently, but I'm worried about my neighbours noticing anything suspicious. I used to let them use my garden as a way through when they were doing some work in their own garden and also to let them in my shed to borrow the odd gardening tool. I've started locking my shed door now and want to cool things off with them a bit as they have pissed me off a bit lately. Won't bore you all with the reasons why Wanting to grow in as natural medium as possible and was wondering what the optimum number of plants would be in the 7 x 7? Also what lighting, extractor and fan size I would need? Many thanks in advance. I would take the time to read up more, but have an illness which has got worse over the years that leaves me easily fatigued and causes problems with my vision when reading/trying to concentrate
  16. Hello you sexy people!! I have a 1.2 X 1.2 X 2 meter tent, with 2 Mars Hydro 300 Watt LED lights, and a completely pointless extraction system. I have just started 3 pineapple chunks (1 looks a bit runtish :-( ). At the moment I have no Carbon filter attached to my extraction as with one it does nothing. So I am going to get a new fan. My question is: for this space do you think a Phresh 6" Hyper fan and a 6" X 12" Phresh filter will be powerful enough? Including the summer months? The marketing spiel says it will shift 345 CFM which by my maths should be plenty and could even get away with half power including a Carbon filter? Or am I mistaken? Thanks in adavance
  17. Hi guys So this is my situation. I have a 2.4 meter x 3.6 meter x 2 meter budbox pro grow tent sitting in my living room. Inside the budbox I have a 24 pot 20L Alien RDWC system fitted with a water chiller. I have 6 x 600w (dim-able to 400w and over clock to 660w) lights in regular reflectors (not air cooled) In terms of air circulation and extraction I have a 10" Isomax can fan extracting the tent to the kitchen and a 6" Isomax can fan drawing cold fresh air in from a vent outside the property. I also have a standard oscillating fan inside. I have the 10" and 6" Isomax's connected to a smscom hybrid 4 amp controller with the min set to 3 and the max set to 5 (max) and the temperature set to 25 C and the sensors are set at the canopy top Still with me..... The problem I have is that although the sides of the tent are pulled in with what I think is "negative pressure" and the fact that I have invested in quality gear and done the math regarding room size and fan performance, I still have temperature of 27 C (80.6 F) Not too bad I hear you say, but here's the issue. I only have 4 of the lights on and they are set to 400w I have not tried all the lights at 600w yet because I didn't want to stress my cuttings out too much as they are new in the system. Please help me guys. I am thinking of buying some air cooled shades but I was told by the (well known internet company) that I would not need them because of the fans and the controller (which cost a fortune) I have got my PH to 5.9 my water temp at 19 C my EC is at 9.1 my humidity is 45 % Canna nutes The plants look okay ( they were brought cuttings but were shit due to over feeding and leaf burn) So they are perking up now but I really need to sort this heat issue out as I am going to flick over to flower in about a week and want to maximize my investment so to speak. No point spending all this money and only being able to run 1600w for 24 plants is it? I want to run 3600w and hopefully achieve a return of 2 kilo of dried bud. So what am I doing wrong? Please help guys Kind regards oldstickymicky
  18. hey you lovely folks of uk420 as the title, i spotted this for sale in aerosol form on a headshop a while ago, and it would seem to me (from what I have read) to be a better solvent than butane here's what it says on wiki : Diethyl ether, also known as ethoxyethane, ethyl ether, sulfuric ether, or simply ether, is an organic compound in the ether class with the formula (C 2H 5) 2O. It is a colorless, highly volatile flammable liquid. It is commonly used as a solvent and was once used as a general anesthetic. It has narcotic properties and has been known to cause temporary dependence, the only symptom of which is the will to consume more, sometimes referred to as etheromania.[ Laboratory usesDiethyl ether is a common laboratory solvent. It has limited solubility in water (6.05 g/100 ml at 25 °C) [10] and dissolves 1.5 g/100 ml water at 25 °C.[11] This, coupled with its high volatility, makes it ideal for use as the non-polar solvent in liquid-liquid extraction. When used with an aqueous solution, the diethyl ether layer is on top due to the fact that it has a lower density than the water. It is also a common solvent for the Grignard reaction in addition to other reactions involving organometallic reagents. Due to its application in the manufacturing of illicit substances, it is listed in the Table II precursor under the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances as well as substances such as acetone, toluene and sulphuric acid.[12] a 500ml can was a smidge under 12 quid, altho i did see it for a smidge under 12 euro after a little search any of you know about this? or have used it? your thoughts? cheers
  19. Hey there, So I have a number of questions related to my enviroment which I will try and number to make it easier. Ok so my plan is a 1kw parabolc in a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2.2 metre tent (green qube). Using DWC ( 2 100litre coolers) and SMS Hybrid controller. Now my original plan was to get an 8" RVK L1 so I could upgrade in future if neccessary. However I have been advised that it is too big for tent my size even on controller. I read that a fan shouldnt be turned below 40% and was told that an 8" would be, especially in winter. This will cause it to burn out. So I have a number of options. There is a vent in the bedroom where the chimney was (fireplace was taken out recently as we got the whole house plastered and vent is now there instead). I can intake from the fireplace and extract into the room or else extract through the fireplace. This is a close family members house so I cant do anything major. Beneath the vent the hole is about 7 inches long and 3 to four inches high. Now this doesnt fit the 6" or 8" ducting. 1. Can I cut through this plasterboard to make it bigger (under the vent it is just plaster board and hasnt been skimmed over like the rest of the wall)? 2. Will intaking through the fireplace bring in nasties (even with bug catcher over it)? Will it be stale air? 3. I can extract through the chimney and intake from the room. Also I could possibly put black out lining on the window in the the room with net curtains in front of it fro summer. Cut a hole and attach spigot to the black out lining as a fresh air intake. Issue with this is I would prefer not to keep the window open all the time and im afraid that houses across the way (20 feet) might see that it doesnt look right. 4. Will extracting through the chimney cause lots of condensation in winter time due to hot air meeting cold. Im afraid of water streaming down the chimney as it isnt my house. Chimeny isnt shared with neighbours im pretty sure. I have heard people mentioning dryer vents not sure exactly what they are or how they work. Have found some on ebay i think but only 4". I think this might work. Its a condensation trap. (Description: 10mm, 125mm and 150mm Condensation Traps, for fitting in vertical rigid PVCu pipe ducting. Must be used where pipe ducts pass through unheated roof voids. Fitted with 20mm pipe connection for running off condensate. Not suitable for use with flexible ducting.) I know it says not useable for flex ducting but im sure i could fashion something. http://www.vent-axia.com/range/condensation-trap.html 4. What size extraction/intake is needed for a 1kw. I want to dial it down with a controller to make it alot more quiet. I was hoping a 6" RVK L1 (Ruck Rvk 150 - L1 = 715 m3) would be enough but have been advised it might not be enough to even properly extract the heat, never mind dial it down. So I can get an intake no problem. Should I get the 6 inch A1 (Ruck Rvk 150 - A1 = 470 m3) for intake? Would that be correct and would it be enough to dial it down but not be too much so that it will be dialled down too much during winter etc? I could get the 8" RVK (1000 cfm) but i wont have the height for it or the filter in the tent i reckon so id need to vent into the room im in. Think thats all for now anyway. Cheers for any replies. Ill like all comments too :-)
