      Well, thanks to that advice, I purchased a meter (£15, but delivered next day) - and for anyone reading, I totally agree with @Sasquatch - and it's a little bonkers we'll all shell out £70+ on a truncheon, and not bother with a £10 meter.   Sadly I changed the lamp before it arrived, so only know that a brand new 600W HPS is reading 197,900 (maximum).   However there's been a noticeable pickup in the plant already. Buds have bulked out, and leaves have gone a deeper green.   It was only yesterday MrsJP remembered that we were running the light 24/7 earlier in the year to keep temps when vegging an earlier grow - so that would have taken a few hours off the total too ...
